JAMES DE GRATERY, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent .No. 176,604, dated April 25, 1876; application filed March 20, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES DE GRATERY, of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful lmproi'ements in Sash-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of a diagonally-grooved slide, thumb-piece, bolt, and other parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and definitely claimed.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window with my sash-lock applied thereto. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are detailed views of the lock.
My sash-lock is composed of a box made in two parts, A and B, a horizontallysliding bolt, 0, and a vertically-moving slide, D.
The bottom or inner part A of the box is formed with suitable guides ac, between which the bolt 0 is placed. The inner end of this bolt is made flat, and has a pin, b, projecting from its front face.
The slide D has on its inner face a diagonal groove, 01, placed over the pin 1) on the bolt,
and on its outer face it has a thumb-piece, D,
projecting through a slot in the top or outer part, B, of the box.
The parts are held together by two screws, d d, passing through the box, which screws also secure the sash-lock in a recess made in the window-sash. In the window-sash are made suitable holes for the entrance of the bolt 0.
By mivlng the slide D upward the bolt (3 is drawn inward, and by moving it downward the bolt is pushed outward, the movement of the bolt being caused by the diagonal slotd working over the pin 1) while the slide is moving vertically.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the bisected box A B, provided with guides and slot, as described, the bolt 0, having pin b, and the slide D, provided with thumb piece D and diagonal groove d, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
