NTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMOS S. BLAKE, OF WATERBURY, CONN EGTIUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN PIANO-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [76.506, dated April 25, 1876; application filed October 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AMOS S. BLAKE, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Locks, of which the following is a specication:
Figure lis a side view of my improved lock, part of the case being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a detail section of the same, taken through the line w w, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail section of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved lock of that kind in which the lockbolt hooks upon the catchplate, and which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and reliable in use.
The invention consists in lthe lock-case, formed of two plates, by bending up the side and end edges, and bending over the end edges of the one plate and slipping the other plate into the seat thus formed.
A is the main plate ot' the lock-case, the side and end edges of which are bent upward at right angles to form the sides and ends of the ease, and the edges of the ends are bent inward at right angles to form flanges beneath which the top plate B ot' the case is slid, as shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3. The case is thus put together, without screws or rivets, except the rivets that secure its turned-up forward side to the face-plate G. D is the bolt, the hooked forward end of which passes out through a slot in the face-plate O. The rear end of the bolt D has a circular head formed upon it which works in a circular recess in the plate E, which is fitted into the cavity of the case vA B, as shown in Fig. 1. The hook-bolt D and the pivot-plate E may be cut out of one piece, so that there will be little waste of material. F is a bent wire spring, one arm of which is straight, and extends along the in ner side of one end of the case A B. The other arm of the spring F is curved so that its end may rest against the convex edge of' the hook-bolt D, and thus hold it in either position. In the circular head otl the bolt D is formed a slot to receive the key, which is inserted through a round hole in the plates AB ot' the case.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The lock-case, formed of the plates A B,vby bending up the side and end edges and bending over the end edges of the plate A, and slipping the plate B into the seat thus formed, substantially as herein shown and described.
AMOS S. BLAKE.
