G. GRIESCHE.
I BEDSTEAD. N0.176.Z99 Patented Apri118, 1876.
ATTEST:
MPETERS. PHOTOJJTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON D C.
I GUSTAV GRIESGHE, OF ST. LOUIS, MI
PATENT OFFICE.
SSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO CHARLES H. OAMPFIELD, JR, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,299, dated April 18, 1876; application filed September 9, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV GRIESGHE, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louisand State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Iron Bedsteads for Woven-Wire Mattresses, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention consists in forming the cornercasting of a woven-wire mattress-frame, with cleat lugs to engage the tubular leg of the bed, and the leg is held in the recesses between the lugs by a clamping-bolt, whose hook engages around the leg and firmly holds it in position. This construction allows of the ready adjustment of the mattress to any height, and removal of the mattress, when desired. Further, this construction allows the placing of two or more mattresses on the legs, so as to form a tier of bunks for use in hospitals, 860.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of one corner of the improved bed, the four corners being similar. Fig.2 is a horizontal section through bracket and bindingscrew.
A is one of the side bars, and B an end bar of a woven-wire mattress-frame, said bars being connected together at the corners by the corner casting 0.
Each corner casting has two pairs of lugs,
c, forming semicircular recesses, into which the legs D of the bed are clamped by the hinding-screw E, which is provided with a curved book, 0, that engages around the leg D between the two pairs of holding-lugs c c. This construction allows the mattress to be readily adjusted vertically on the legs, so that either end can be raised or lowered according to the wants of the patient, or two or more mattresses may be hung on each set of legs.
The legs D are formed of gas-pipe, that may be bent into a bow, D, at top to form the head rail of the bed. F is a bushing, inserted in the lower ends of the legs D, in which the shank of the caster g bears.
It will be seen that the mattress may be adjusted vertically at one or both ends, or may be removed from its legs, by the loosening of only four nuts, and may he made perfectly tight on its legs by the tightening of said four nuts.
I claim as my inventiou The corner-casting A of a mattress-frame, having cleat lugs c for the reception of the leg D, in combination with the binding-bolt E, having a clamping-hook, e, substantially as set forth.
GUSTAV GRIE$GHE.
