SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,103, dated February 16, 1904.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RnssA C. WAGNER REIN- ERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Keota, in the county of Keokuk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Bed, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain improvements in beds, and more particularly to that class known as metallic beds.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and durable bed so constructed that the ends of the spread or outer covering may hang freely and gracefully in position, covering the foot-rail and giving the bed a handsome finish. i

A secondary object of the invention is to provide a novel form of foot-piece adapted to prevent longitudinal movement of the mattress, thereby permitting the under covering to be tucked beneath the mattress and securely held from displacement and at the same time permitting the outer covering or spread to be draped thereover in any desired manner.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement ofparts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a metallic bed constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Figf 3 is a front elevation of a modified form of footpiece. Fig. 4 is a perspective view illustrating a further modification, and Fig. 5 is a top plan view of Fig. 4.

In making up the bed the ends of the sheets or other under covering may be tucked beneath the mattress, being prevented from displacement by the foot-piece, the end of the spread or other drapery being passed over the cross-rails and dropped into the passage or recess formed between the foot-piece and the footboard, where they hang gracefully, effectually covering and concealing the cross-rails and giving a neat tidy appearance to the bed.
