POST FULLER Filed April 19, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 A iiorney Patented June 3, 1930 ros'r FULLER.
JOHN N. MICK, on VAN METER, IOWA Applieati-on filed April 19, 929; Serial No. 356,489.
The present invention relates to a post puller and has for its prime object to provide means affording great leverage for pulling posts, pegs, poles and the like from the ground.
A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of an apparatus of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensve to manufacture, strong and durable, easy to manipulate, thoroughly etficient and reliable inuse and operation, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects 1 in View as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and 26 claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus embodying the features of my invention showing the same in position for pulling a post from the ground,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the apparatus, I V
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken sub stantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure t is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 1- 1: of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through one end of the handle showing the shanks attached thereto,
Figure 6 is an enlarged detail section taken substantially on the line 66 of Figure 2,
and V v Figure 7 is an enlarged detail section taken substantiallyon the line 7 -7 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a base plate adapted to rest on the ground adjacent a post or the like. perpendicular coextensive standards 6 rise 45 from the base and have oppositely disposed bottom flanges 7 bolted as at 8 to the base plate 5. These standards are fiat in construction and are held in spaced relation by bolts 9 with spacers 10 thereon between the 59 standards.
A pair of spaced 4 The numeral 11 denotes an elongated handl'e whichhas bolted as at 12 to each side of one end the reoi shanks 14: which extend beyond said end and diverge away fromeach' other in extensions 15 which merge into curved terminals 16, across whichis fixed a curved plate 17 the outer end of which is sharpened. tremities 16 This plate 17, is held to the exthe plate bymeans of bolts 18 extending through the 19 adjacent extremities 16 and also "by bolts the other or opposite edge of the plate, it being noted that the bolts 19 have booked extensions 20 extending under the lower edges of theextremities 16.
An eye bolt 21 is fixed to one extension 15 and a hook 22 is fixed to the other extension adjacent the sharpened edge of 15. A chain 23 is fixed at one end to the eye 21 and the other end has links engageable j with the hook 21.: j
In using this device the base is set alongslde of a post or the like 2& so that the standards rise in parallel relation thereto. A bolt 25 pivotally mounts the handle 11 and the aids. The
shank 1 1 between the extremities of the standchain is passed around the post 24: and engaged with the hook 22'. When the handle is lifted the chain slips down loose over the pole or post and when the handle. is moved downwardly the biting or sharp edge of the plate 17 bites into the post and with the assistance of the chain 23 the post is moved upwardly out of the ground as Will be quite apparent. It may require one or more operations of the apparatus in this manner to full lift the post or pole from the ground.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
In an apparatus of the class described, a base, a standard rising from the base, a handle pivoted to the standard, a pair of shanks fixed to opposite sides of the handle extending therebeyond at one end and merging into diverging extensions Which in turn merge into curved terminals, a curved plate fixed across the terminal, the outer edge of said curved plate being sharpened, an eye on one of the extensions, a hook on the other extension, a chain engaged With said eye and engageable with said hook, a pair of bolts engaged With the plate and extending through the terminals and a second pair of bolts engaged with the plate and having hooked extensions engaging under the terminals, said standards comprising a pair of spaced parallel members rising from the base, spacing collars disposed between intermediate portions of the members, the handle and shanks being pivotally mounted between the upper extremities thereof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN N. MICK.
