Description

W. H. MYERS.
SASH-FASTENER.
Patented April 11, 1876.
NJETERS. PHOTO-LITNOGRAPHEH, WASHINGTON, D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. MYERS, OF OREGON, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD HIS RIGHT TO E. HENRY OSBORN AND ONE-THIRD TO JAMES M. FOX,
OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERSL Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,035, dated April 11, 1876; application filed April 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. MYERS, of Oregon, in the county of Dane and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Sash-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front elevation of a window-frame and sashes with my improved sash-fastener applied thereto. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views of the sash-fastener.
This invention has relation to fastenings for sashes and other analogous purposes; and the nature of my invention consists in the combination of a toggle-joint with a window-sash in such manner that the sash can be rigidly locked when it is raised or depressed, as will be hereinafter morefully described, and definitely claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figs. 1, 2, and 3, I have represented my device as applicable to a window-sash. The capital letter A designates a window-frame, and the letters B B show two sashes applied in the frame, in the usual well-known manner. 0 G designate two arm s, which are jointed together, so as to form a knee or toggle joint. The upper end of the arm G is pivoted to a bracket, a, which is secured to the window-frame, and the lower end of the arm 0 is pivoted to a plate, I), which is secured to the sash B at or near one corner thereof. The jointed ends of the arms 0 C have circular enlargements formed on them. between which is a washer, e, of leather or other suitable material. Through said enlargements, and also through the washer, a pivot-bolt, f, is passed, on which a nut or thumb-screw, g, is applied, for tightening or loosening the joint.
Fig. 1 shows the sash down, and held fast by the toggle-joint. When the sash is raised it can he held by reversing the toggle-joint.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sash-fastener composed of jointed arms O G, forming a toggle-joint, in combination with the washer e and a clamping device, g, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. MYERS. Witnesses:
F. POW'ERS, H. B. POWERS.
