MILK BOTTLE HOLDER Filed May 24, 1928 gwumtoz Al-H6265 Patented WILLIAM H. GEBHARDS, F PHELPS CITY, MISSOURI MILK-BOTTLE HOLDER Application filed May 24, 1928. Serial No. 280,255.
This invention relates to a milk bottle 3, said arm being relatively broad and proholder and it is an object of the invention to vided adjacent to its outer end with a groove provide a device of this kind which may be or channel a extending transversely there readily applied to a post or other support across and which is adapted to receive a porand which, when not in use, automatically tion of a pivot bolt 5. The arm 3 is main- 55 assumes a compact adjustment. tained in requisite engagement with the pivot Another object of the invention is to probolt 5 by a bearing plate 6 bolted or othervide a device of this kind with which a botwise secured to the arm 3 and provided with tle may be readily engaged and whereby the a groove or channel 7 adapted to register bottle is held in a position out of the way of with the groove or channel 4 hereinbefore so small children, cats and dogs and also in a referred to. manner whereby the bottle may be readily The pivot bolt 5 is also disposed through and conveniently removed. the spaced aligned knuckles 8 provided on The invention consists in the details of the plate 9 and between which the arm 3 is 5 construction and in the combination and arsnugly received. The plate 9 is adapted to be 65 rangement of the several parts of my immounted in any desired manner, as by screws proved milk bottle holder whereby certain or the like upon a face of a post or other important advantages are attained and the support. device rendered simpler, less expensive and The plate 9 is provided with a ledge 11 2o otherwise more convenient and advantageous with which the outer end portion of the arm 70 for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set 3 contacts to limit the downward swinging forth. movement of the member 1.
The novel features of my invention will Operatively engaged with the pivot bolt 5 hereinafter be definitely claimed. at opposite sides of the arm 3 are the coiled In order that my invention may be the betsprings 12 provided at the end portions of an 75 ter understood, I will now proceed to 'deoutstanding elongated frame 14 which underscribe the same withreference to the accomlies the member 1 and has its outer end porpanying drawing, wherein tion inserted through the slits 15 produced in igure 1 is a view in side elevation illusthe bottom wall of the member 1 whereby 3o trating a milk bottle holder constructed in said frame is effectively engaged with said 0 accordance with an embodiment of my inmember. vention and in working position, a portion The outer end portion of each of the springs being in section; 12 is provided with an extension 17 opera- Figure 2 is a view partly in section and tively engaged with the plate 9 to assure the partly in top plan of the cup-like member and requisite functioning of the spring. WVith the base portion of a bottle received As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, within the member 1, an elongated loop meme5 1 denotes a cup-like member of requisite diher or clip 18 is engaged around the neck pormensions and which in use is adapted to retion of the bottle, said loop member or clip ceive the base portion of a bottle. The side 18 being hingedly connected for swinging flange 2 of the member 1 is rovided at its movement in a vertical direction to the post upper portion with a radially disposed arm or support, as indicated at 19. The outer 10o extremities of the loop member or clip 18 are provided with the rubber'knobs or tips 20. and if desired the side wall 2' of the member 1 may have disposed over the inner face thereof the clips 21 to assure an effective fitting of the base portion of the bottle within themember 1.
In practice it is to be understood that the member 1 willbe positioned upon a post or other supporting surface a distance sufliciently above the floor level to prevent ready access thereto by small children or by cats and dogs, and it will also be readily seen that the construction of the holder hereinbefore described is such to permit the bottle to be readily applied'or removed. Furthermore, it is to be noted that when the bottle is removed the member 1 will at once swing upwardly against the adjacent face of the post or other support and that the clip or loop member 18 will readily drop down to such position so that when the device is not in use these members areout of the way. 7 From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a milk bottle holder constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof-and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the severalparts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as herein after claimed. I
1. A bottle holder comprising, in combination, a member having a side flange to provide a cup-like formation toreceive the base portion of a bottle, an outstanding arm carried by the upper portion of the flange, a pivot bolt, means for engaging the outer end portion of the arm to the pivot bolt, members with which the pivot bolt is engaged, the arm being positioned between said members, a frame contacting with the bottom of the cuplike member and having spaced extremities,
coil springs carried by said extremities of the frame and encircling the pivot bolt at opposite sides of the arm, said springs being operatively engaged with the supporting members for the bolt, said springs exercising a tension for automatically raising the cup-like member when free of load, and'means for limiting the downward swinging movement of the arm.
2., A bottle'holder comprisinggin combination, a member having a side flange to provide a cup-like formation to receive the base portion of a bottle, an outstanding arm carried by the upper portion. of the flange, a
pivot bolt, means for engaging the outer end portion of the arm to the pivot bolt, members with which the pivot bolt is engaged, the arm being positioned between said members, a frame contacting with the bottom of the cup-like member and having spaced extremities, coil springs carried by said extremities of the frame and encircling the pivot bolt at opposite sides of the arm, said springs being operatively engaged with the supporting members for the bolt, said springs exercising a tension for automatically raising the cup-like member when free of load,
means for limiting the downward swingmovement of the arm, the bottom of the "l'D-lllifi member being provided with spaced its through which the outer portion of the frame is inserted to positively connect said frame to the cup-like member.
in, testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
WILLlAM H. GEBHARDS.
