IMPROVEMENT IN VAULT-COVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,725, dated April 4, 18,76; application filed September 30, 1875.

Beit known that I, JOHN J. MECKLENBER'G, of' Flushing, in the county of Queens and State ot' New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaultand Sky Lights; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specitication.
rlhe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement ota vault-cover, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a plan view of my improved vault-cover; and Fig. 2 is a lon itudinal section of the same through the line a: Fig. l.
A represents the frame of my vault-cover, of any suitable form and size, and provided with a central opening for the reception ot' the cover B. Around the opening in the frame A are formed two shoulders or oi'sets, c and b, as shown in ligure 2. The cover B is formed around its edges with a continuous tongue or lip, d, which, when the cover is placed in the frame A, rests upon the shoulder or oi'set a, and comes level with the shoulder b, thus forming a groove between the cover and frame in the upper surface. In this groove is placed a packing-ring', C, and on top thereof is placed a metal ring, D, of such shape as to lill the groove, and thus making the joint water-tight. The surfaces ot' the frame A, cover B, and ring D, are studded with suitable projections, as shown. The vault-cover may be made ot' any desired size and shape, and the frame made to contain one or more covers, according to the size.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the frame A, having shoulders or offsets 0L bwthe cover B, with tongue or lip d, the packing-ring C, and ring D, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
