Description

April 29, 1930.
B. M. LEVIN GENTLEMANS CRAVAT, FOUR-IN-HAND TYPE Filed April 9, 1929 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 29, 1930 'UNITED STATES PATENT orrice BORRIS MORRIS LEVIN, 0F SAN' FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA GENTLEMANS CRAVAT, FOUR-IN-HAND TYPE Application filed April 9, 1929. Serial No. 353,746.
This invention relates to the manufacture of four-in-hand cravats. In observing the use of suoli cravats I have discovered that the ditculty with' the proper tying of them, together with short life, has been due to improper attachment of the filler in the tie withthe body of the tie itself. To solve this diliicnlty and to give the crvavat certain advcravat, turned inside out, thev attachment Y being .made by a chain stitch.
Fig. V3, embodies the crux of my invention.
i Hand stitching is inserted through the cravat andfiller (as shown in Fig. 2) from both ends of the cravat, neither hand stitch, however, travelling the entire length of the cravat but travelling only approximately %ths of its length. Each of the hand stitches is so inserted as to cross the other at the mathematical center of the cravat.
Fig. L4, embodies everything contained in Fig. 3 showing the condition of the cravat after the chain stitch shown in Fig. 2 has been removed.` Y
Fig. 5, shows the completed cravat turned right side out and pressed.
The greatest advantage obtained by this method ofl manufacture is iiexibility, which is vital for. long life in a cravat and` for ease in tying it. The method of basting by hand as shown in Fig. 3 permits any amount of pulling or tugging at the ends of the cravat, after which the cravat immediately Asprings into its original shape, when the tugging and pulling is ended. Another advantage of my invention is that the cravat when inserted .in a collar springs into proper place by reason of the flexibility Y referred to.
I claim of hand stitches, and the lines of hand stitches commencing at opposite ends of the cravat, crossing each other in approximately the mathematical center of the cravatv and ending approximately three-lifths of the length of thecravat from where each started. In testimony whereofV he has signed fhis name to this specification. Y
