NECKTIE Filed May 24. 1928 IKE /ezmiz Patented July 23, 1929,.

NECKTIE.
.application mea May 24,
This invention relates to neckties and it is an object of the invention to provide a tie which can be readily and conveniently vapplied and removed without the necessity ofl s tying or untying and which can be worn with equal facility in connection with a soft or o stiff collar.-
It is also an objecto-f the invention to provide a device of this kind wherein the connecting member between the tie sections is of a pliable or iexible character assuring effective fitting or setting of the tie at the front of the collar. The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved necktie whereby certain important advantagesare attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive' and otherwise 29 more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will y,hereinafter be definitelyclaimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed todescribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Fi re 1 is a fragmentary view in elevation illustrating a necktie constructed in accordancewith an embodiment of my invention partly assembled; Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 showinga further assembly of the necktie;
i re 3 is a view in plan of the connecting mem er as herein embodied unapplied:
Figure 4 is aview in perspective with portions broken away of a necktie constructed in accordance with the present embodiment of my invention and with 'the sections of the tie unknotted.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, my improved necktie lcomprises the tie. sections 1 of desiredlengths and of a character to permit the same td'be tied or connected in the well known fashion of a fodrin-hand. An end portion of each yof the Asections 1 is formed to provide a sheath '2 to receive an end. 4portion of a connecting member 3 highly pliable in y character andj-which ma be produced from leather or otherA kin red material. eachof the tie sections 1 at the inner end of the sheath 2 is provided transversely therel"V of with a slot 4 to permit the desired insertion of an' end portion of the member 3 therein,
1928. Serial' No. 280,356.
said slot 4 in one of the sections being in the rear wall and in the second section in the front wall. l
The central portion of the member 3 is provided witha pair of longitudinally spaced and relatively large openings 5 herein disclosed v as substantially rectangular in form and in close proximity one to the other.
The end vided with t e sheaths 2 are disposed through said openings 5 before the end portions of Iportions of the sections 1 pro- A the member 3 are inserted within the ,i
sheaths 2.
The end portions of the member Sextend within the'sheaths 2 and terminate adjacent the outer ends of said sheaths. By this arrangement the stitching 7 for holding the eye member 6 to one of the sections 1 will be disposed through an end portion of the mem- .ber 3 while the stitching 7 for connecting the elastic band 8 to the secondsection 1 will be directed through the opposite end portion of the member 3. By this means the stitchings 7 -and ''.provide effective means for maintaining the member -3'in desired assembled relation with respect to the sections 1. This band 8 is provided at its outer portion with an adjustable loop 9 with which is operatively engaged a hook member 10 for conventional coactlon with the eye member 6. The tie sections 1 are then connected in a well known manner to' produce afinished tie of a four-inhand type, or of such other style as may be preferred in accordance with the exact character of the tie sections 1.
It is also to be noted that in assembling the tie sections 1 andthe member 3, said tie'sections immediately to the rear of the-member 3 are in crossed relation and that initially, or before tying the sections 1, said sections are in reverse relation so that the desired knot will be properly formed with the dressed surfaces of both of the sections 1 properly exposed. L
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that .a necktiefconstructed in. accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with whichy it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereofand for this reason I do not ywish to be understood as limiting myself to the preoise arra ement and formation ofthe sew' ing an end portion insertible within the eral parts erein shown in carrying outmy end practice except as hereinaftertwo tie sections, an said sections being provlded with a sheath, 'a wall of which having an entrance olliening at the inner end of 10 the sheath, a pliab e connecting member havsheath ofeachtie section, the central portion of said member having spaced openings through which end portions of the tie sections arev inserted, a collar encirclin means for connecting the end ortions o the tie sections provlded with t e sheaths.l
In testimony whereof I hereuntof ax my signature. NELS B. NELSON
