Description

G. W. HAS'L A'M. HAME-TUG AND BUCKLE.
No.175'.454. Patented March 28. 1876 NJETERS, PNDTO-UTHOGRIFNER. WASHINGTON, D, C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGE W.-HASLAM, OF PHILADELPHIA, .PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAME TUGS AND BUCKLES.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,454, dated March 28, 1876 application filed J une 4, 1875.
bined tug and buckle; Fig. 2, a rear view,
and Fig. 3 a side view partly in section.
An ordinary hame-tug, composed of a strip of leather secured at one end to the hame,
and provided at the opposite end with a buckle for receiving the end of the trace, is objectionable on accountof its bulk, liability to wear, and insecurity.
I overcome these objections by making the tug and buckle of one piece of metal, in the manner shown in the drawing, in which' A represents a metal plate, having loops at a, and b for the reception of the trace-strap B,
and provided at one end with an eye, (I, for attachment to the hame, which passes round the collar.
The plate A has an opening, e, formed in it at the rear of the loop I), the said opening being contracted at one end for the reception of a pivoted lever, f, the short arm of which forms a tongue, and when the lever is depressed projects into one of the holes in the irace B, and effectually retains the same.
When it is desired to unbuckle the trace, it is forced in the direction of the arrow, so as to throw outward the long arm of the lever fin the direction of its arrow, the lever being then held in this position while the trace is removed or adjusted.
The above-described hame tug and buckle is a neat and compact substitute for the ordinary device, and it possesses the important advantage of allowing the trace-strap to remain straight, and in the best condition for resisting the strain to which it is subjected, the only wear on the trace in my improved device being at the hole which receives the short arm or tongue of the leverf, and which is contained within the loop b.
I claim as my invention- The within-described hame tug and buckle,
consisting ofa metallic plate, A, having an eye, at, for direct attachment to the hame, and provided with loops to b for the reception of the trace-strap, and with the bell-crank lever f, the short arm of which forms a tongue adapted to an opening in the plate, all substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony whereofl have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE W. HASLAM.
