One 0f the principal objects of this invention is to provicle such a latch Which automatically locks a swinging d00r or winclow in the desirecl open Position upon. 0pening the same and Which can be easily releasecl to permit 0f closing tl1e cloor or winclow.

A further aim is to provicle such a devi 0e Which is inexpensive, simple, compact ancl str0ng, ancl Will not getout of orcler er out of g00cl working condition through constant 0r severe use.

Another purpose is to provide such alzitc'h which is adaptecl f0r use 011 a sWinging (1001 01' window Which swings either t0 the right or to the left bj means 01": a verysimple reorganization 0f the parts when su'ch reorganizati0n is necessary.

A ssill further objeet is to provide such a clevice Whi0h is attractive in appearancev ancl 0ccupies but a small space 011 the'fiame of be cloor o1 winclow.

In its general organization this invention is aclapt'ed for'use in holcling tw0 relative swinging members ajar and inclucles an arm pivotecl 130 one 01 saidmembef3, a second arm pivotally connecting the first arm and the other 0f said members and a latchbar carried byone 0f the arms ai1d aclapted 110 catch ancl hold the other arm when the mexnbers are 0pened anal prevent a return or folcling move ment-of the arms except when the catch is released.

A latch for tw0 relatively swinging members, comprising an arm pivotally sonnected to one of said members, a second arm pivotally c0nnected to the other member and pivotally connected between its ends t0 the Other arm thereby to provide portions of said arms which overlap in the unfolded Position of sa1d arms, a catch bar movably secured at one end 1:0 the outer side 01 one of said arms and having a projection arranged in the path 0f the overlapping portion of the othr arm and adapted to catch and hold said overlapping portion of the other arm when said arms are unfolded, and meansfor preventing said arms from passing beyond their dead center.
