BALE-TIE.
No,175,334= Patented March 28,1876.

UNITED STATES PATENT Or FIon.
WILLIAM CARSON, OF STILOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT INBALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,334, dated March 28, 1876; applicationfiled August 21, 1875.
hereinafter described, whereby theyare adapted to be locked together, and also readily disengaged by raisingone part vertically 011' from the other.
Figure l is a plan view of my improved bale-tie, the two parts being disengaged. Fig. 2 is a plan, showing the parts engaged; and Fig. 3 is an edge view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. L
A and B represent the two parts of the buckle or tie, being of flat, cast, or stamped plates, each having a slot, U, for connecting the hoop D, and one having the notch E, with the contracted mouth F, also the sockets G,
the latter being on opposite sides of the notch, and the other plate having the tongue I to tit the notch E F, and the projections J to rest in the sockets, in the manner shown in Fig.2.
The notch E and the tongue I are a little larger on the under side, as indicated by the dotted lines a, than the outer side, tomake it necessary for the tongue to escape that way from the notch, so that the pressure of the balewill keep it in the notch, and thus keep the two sections locked together. The part A may be readily disengaged from part B by raising it vertically at one side-a result of great practical importance.
Ha ving thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The part A, having the notch or open slot E, and sockets or books G, in combination with the part B, having lateral projections J and tongue I, as shown and described, whereby said parts are adapted to be disengaged, in the manner set forth.
WILLIAM CARSON.
