H. l. WRIGHT.
Bale-Tie.

wnnssses: mvnljum @@LW ffy/M( www# momma f NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. WRIGHT, OF SOCIETY HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,326,dated August 3, 1875; application filed February 13, 1875.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. WRIGHT, ot` Society Hill, in the county of Darlington and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bale-Ties, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to the construction ot' ties for baling cotton and other articles; and consists of a tie made of two parts, to one of which the band is attached, which lock together and tie the band, as hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents sectional edge views of the parts of the tie, one ofl which is attached tothe end of the band, according to my invention. Fig. 2 shows the tie and band as applied to the bale. Fig. 3 is a top view of one part of the tie having the band attached. Fig. 4t is a top view A of the other part of the tie.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A is the part of the tie which is permanently attached to the band by a rivet, B, as seen in Fig. l. This part of the tie extends forward from the end of the baud, and has a broad slot, C. The cross-bar D at the end is dropped down, as seen in Figs. l and 3,whicl1 allows the end of the other part of the tie to be slipped through, as seen in Fig. 2. E is the tenon, which thus slips through the part A, and cramps the band. Gr is the-other part4 of the tie, consisting of the tenon E (above referred to) and the plate H, in which is the slot I. through which slot the end of the band passes, as seen in Fig. l. -The end ot' the band also passes through the slot C of the other part, as seen in Fig. 2, and then extends back in contact with the bale. In such case the shoulders on plate A abut the side bars F of plate A.
This tie may be made of either cast or wrought iron, and is applied in the easiest and most rapid manner.
Having thus described lnyinvention, I claim as new and desirel to secure by Letters Patent- The bale-tie or buckle, composed of the plate A, having slot C and the end cross-bar D in a dii'erent plane from the part to which the band is riveted, and the plate H, having slot I to receive the free end of the band, and tenon E, to adapt it for locking with plate A, as shown and described.
HENRY JACKSON WRIGHT.
