This invention relates to improvements in door beds and consists of the matters hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

One of the objects of thepresent invention is to so support a comparatively wide bed upon a narrower, swinging door, that the bed may be shifted laterally upon the door to permit said bedto clear and pass through the door opening when the door is swung into position to conceal the bed from view.

' Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved arrangement of two co-acting doors, upon one of which is 1 supported a wider bed, so that when the door supporting the bed has been swung into a position normally occupied by the other door, said other door may be swung'into the position normally occupied by the first mentioned door,.and may thereafter be used as an entrance or service door in passingfrom the bed room into the dressing room or other compartment in which the bed has been concealed.

A further object of the invention is to provide improved co-acting partson the bed and door respectively, which not only permit of an easy lateral shifting or movement of the bed with respect to the associated door, but will hold the bedjagainst sagging downward.

These objects of the invention, as well as the many advantages thereof, will more fully appear as I proceed with my specification.

In said wall is a passageway or door opening 11, which is normally closed, preferably by two doors 12 "and 13 respectively. The bed frame comprises ahead frame 23, a foot frame 24:and a body frame which includes parallel side bars 25 and parallel end bars 26 respectively. The "head frame includes an inverted U-shaped member having upright side posts or legs '27 and an integral hdrizontal top member 28, all preferably made of a rectangular metallic tubing. .The H posts or legs 27of the head frame are connected together by a flat bar 29 near thebottom ends thereof, and by a channel bar 30, spaced a suitable distance above the bar 29,

Said fingers are adapted when the bed frame is being folded upwardly to bear upon the mattress and pillows on said bed frame so that they cannot shift or slip when the bed is in its final folded position.

As shown herein, the bed frame is considerably wider than the door 12 with which it is associated. When the channel bar 30 on the head frame 23 is engaged upon the rollers 19 and under the roller 21 on the door, the flat bar 29 at the bottom of the head frame bears with a thrust under the weight of the bed frame against the rollers 18-18, so that the bed frame may be shifted laterally of the door. As is apparent, said door bears the entire weight of the bed and thus provides a support therefor which may be swung about the common axis provided by the

Assume that the parts are all in the position shown in Fig. 1 wherein the bed is on one side of the wall 10 and is down in its horizontal position ready for use. Should it be desired to sweep or otherwise clean under the bed while it is in this position, it is onl necessary to shift the same laterally of the door 12 toward the door 13, thus giving unobstructed access to that part of the floor normally under the bed.

When it is desired to conceal the bed from view, the foot end 24 thereof is lifted upwardly so that the bed stands in the vertical folded position shown in dotted lines in Fig.

2. In this folding up movement of the bed, the rollers 33 travel downwardly along the back face of the posts 27 of the head frame and the fulcrum or brace links 34 swing in a short are into the position shown in Fig. 2. Suitable mechanism (not shown herein as it forms no specific part of this invention) is employed in the operative connection between the head and bed frame so that the said bed frameis counter-balanced and will not fall or swing down from the folded position under its own weight. The folded bed may be shifted laterally of the door 12, by means of the bars or rails and rollers before mentioned until its left hand side (as viewed in the drawings) is free of or clears the left hand side of the door opening 11 as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3 and as shown in the diagrammatic View in Fig. 5.

The door 12 may now be swung about the common axis of both doors to stand in a plane at a right angle to said wall 10, after which the door 13 is then swung into a position opposite that of said door 12 as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 6. The

12 and 13 may then be swung into the full line positions shown in Fig. 7 said doors in this instance being relatively interchanged with the bed concealed behind or back of the other side of the wall 10. The door 13 may be used as tion ready for use, the laterally extending" fingers of said fulcrum bars assume a position near the head end of the mattress and are concealed by the pillows which are placed near the head end of the bed, said laterally extending fingers being out of the way when the bed is in actual use. The rails and rollers providing the connection between the door 12 and head frame 23 are so positioned as to be concealed when the bed is down ready for use. Furthermore, said connection is such that the bed frame may be easily removed as an entirety from the door 12, should it so be necessary. I

By use of the roller 21 which engages upon the top surface of the channel 30, the bed I cannot tip laterally in either direction, under the wei ht of a person occupying one or the other side of the bed.

While in describing my invention I have,

referred to the same as a door bed and have illustrated and described the same as such, but I do not wish to be limited to beds mounted on doors alone, as the invention may be used in connection withbeds mounted on fixed supports such as a building wall or the invention may be used in connection with folding beds of the cabinet type.

I claim as my invention In a structure of the kind described, the combination of a support and a frame member laterally movable thereon, a pair of spaced apart grooved rollers fixed to the support, a downwardly facing channel member secured to said'frame member and having one of its flanges engaged with said grooved rollers, a device on said support between said rollers and engaging with the top web of said channel member for holding the frame member against lateral tipping, and means on said support and frame member respectively near the bottom ends providing a thrust receiving bearing between said support and frame member.
