COLLAPSIBLE AND REDUCING BOX Filed July 3, 1928 gwventoz EEb IgE .WT Paris Patented Mar. 25, 1930 UNITED I srA Es PATENT OFFICE GEORGE W. PARIS, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO KARLE LITHOGRABHIC COMPANY, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK GOLIlAPSIBLE AND REDUCING BOX I Application filed July 3,
This invention relates to improvements in folding, reducing and collapsible boxes. An object of this invention is to provide a box having a plurality of weakening, scoring or slotted lines positioned thereon in such a manner that the sides of the box will collapse and permit the upper portion'to telescope over the collapsed section after it has been separated along the scoring lines.
A further object of this invention is to provide a box adapted particularly for small quantities of articles or food such as cough drops and the like, wherein portions of the box may be separated from the main body section as the cough drops are consumed and re-located in relationship with the main body portion of the box, so as to form a complete package of a reduced size for accommodating llilie amount of unconsumed cough drops or the Other ob'ects of this invention will appear from the ollowing detailed description of the device, and as disclosed in. the drawings which are herewith made a part of this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of the box showing its different portions in folded and closed relationship, and the score lines both longitudinal and peripherial located thereon.
Figure 2 represents a perspective view of the container showing a portion removed therefrom just previous to a reduction in size of the container.
Figure 3 illustrates a perspective view of the container in a reduced form, the separated portion having been located in position.
Figure 4 discloses a perspective view of a further reduction in size of the container.
Figure 5 represents a sectional elevation'al view of the box or container.
Figure 6 illustrates a vertical sectional view of the contalner 1n a reduced form, a section having been separated from the mainbody portion and telescopically arranged there-- -1928. SeriaI No. 290,157.
View of Figure 4 disclosing the box further along the score lines 11 and 12. Closing flaps 13 and 14 are connected along score lines 15 and 16 to the end portions 9 and 10.
In order to provide a box having efficient means for collapsing and separating one portion from another when it is desired to re-- duce the size thereof, slotted or score lines of a'suflicient number such as designated by the numerals 26 and 27 are formed in the sides of the box, and deep scorelines 28 and 29 are formed in the sides 3 and 4 of the box and longitudinally thereof in such a manner that when one'portion of the box is separated from another, for instance, along the line 27, the other portion may be easily collapsed so that the separated section can be brought down telescopically over the outer surface of the box, thereby functioning to reduce the size of the container to a point whichwill accommodate the desired contents.
This invention provides a very eflicient box or container adapted for holding various articles of merchandise or otherwise, such as candies, in small quantities, which during the consumption thereof naturally require a reduction in the size of the box in proportion to the quantity consumed or disposed of, by merely separating a portion of the box alon the peripherally arranged score lines anc l telescopically rearranging the separated section over the main body portion of the box, any desired reduction in size of the container may be accomplished.
It will be understood that many changes and modifications may be made in the form of embodiment of this invention Within the scope of the following claims Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. A container formed in separable sections defined by score lines arranged peripherally of said container, a face of said container being divided longitudinally by a score line intersecting said peripheral score lines whereby one section when torn ofl", can be telescoped over another section by depressing the part of said face embraced in said other section along said longitudinal score line thereby narrowing the Width of said other section.
2. A container formed in separable sections defined by score lines arranged peripherally of said container at different levels, a face of said container being divided longitudinally by a score line intersecting said peripheral score lines whereby one section when torn off can be telescoped over any of the other sections by depressing the part of said face embraced in said other section along u said longitudinal score line, thereby narrowmg the width of said other section.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GEORGE W. PARIS.
