Description

March 25,1930. l w. R. THOMSON TABLE Fl'ed Oct. 29,1928
improvement in a table,
body so that a convenient table structure, economical Patented Mar. 25, 1930 UNITED STATES WILLIAM n. THoMsoN, oFf noiwson,y MICHIGAN TABLE Application led October 29, 1928.
My invention relates to a new and useful and particularly a table which may be formed through attachments to a kitchen sink or similar sup orting may lie provided in a kitchen and when not in use swung to a position to occupy a minimum of space.
It is an object of thev invention to provide a table of thisclass which will be simple in of manufacture and highly eflicient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a table supporting mechanism which may be easily and quickly attached in position. f
Another object of the invention isv the provision of a table formingleaf provided with supporting mechanism whereby the leaf may be held in operative position and easily and quickly swung to inoperative position.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination v and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. i
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which, Y
Fig. 1 is an end elevational View 4of the invention attached to a sink with parts broken away.
Fig. 2 is a view taken on line'2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting structure. y
Fig. V4c is a perspective view of the table forming portion. 'Y f Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional View taken 0n line 5 5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention.
In the drawings I have illustrated the invention attached to a sink 9 which is usually provided in a kitchen, but from a description of the invention, it will appear evident, although itis preferred to mount the invention on a sink, that other supporting bodies may be used as well. I provide a supporting frame comprising a pair of spaced U-shaped members having downwardly directed legs l0 and 11, which are engaged by supporting serial. No. 315,653.
are slidably mounted the supporting bars 19 and 20, each having a shoulder 21 formed to securethe legs 10 and adjacent the outer end. vThe table leaf 22 isV hingedly connected tothe 23, which is secured by supportingboard.- bolts projected through .the openings 24 and throughthe l openings 25 to thelegs 10 and 11. 'Ihe connection between thev members 22 and 23 is made by the plate 26 which is secured lto the member 23 and lthe pin i 27, which projects through the plate 26 into, the member 22 adj a`- cent its edge. Swingably vconnected to o site'edges of the leaf 22 are the end leaves 28 and 29. -QVhendesired these leaves maybe swung downwardlyinto the position shownin Fig.y a forthe leaf 28. The leaf 29 illustrates the operative position of these leaves, the slid,-
able bars 19 and 20 being movable toposi-lv tion for supporting the leaf 28 and the leaf 29 in :the same leaves 28 V and 29 maybefolded inwardly upon 'the leaf 22 as shownin Fig. 2 and engagev behind there'duced portion 30 of the bars 19 and 20, so asto lock these leaves in position. LIll/Then the leaf 22 is swung downwardly in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, this leaf will serve as an apron for the sink 9, thus serving to conceal the plumbing-and other `objects which may be beneath the sink. In this way, I have provided a simple and easily assembled device of this class, which will serve to enhance the sanitary appearance of the kitchen and afford a convenience when its use is desired.
In Fig. 6 I have shown a modified form inr plane as the leaf 22. ,These c ppo- 1 slidably mounted on saidv frame; a cross bar connecting said supporting arms; and a pair of bars slidably mounted in said cross bar; a board mounted on said supporting frame; a leaf swingably mounted on said board, said supporting bars upon engagement With the under surface of said leaf, retaining the same in horizontal position; a pair ofleaves, each swingably connected to one edge of said first mentioned leaf and foldable thereon, said slidably mounted bars in said cross bar adapted to engage the under surface of sai pair of'leaves and maintain said pair of leaves in alignment with said first mentioned leaf.
2. In a table of the class described a supporting frame; a pair of supporting arms slidably mounted on said frame; a cross bar connecting said supporting arms; and a pair of bars slidably mounted in said cross bar; a board mounted on said supporting frame; a leaf swingably mounted on said board, said supporting bars adapted to engage with the under surface of said leaf, thereby retaining the same in horizontal position; a pair of leaves, each swingably connected to one edge ofV said first mentioned leaf and foldable thereon, said slidably mounted bars in said cross bar adapted to engage the under surface of said pair of leaves and maintain said pair of leaves in alignment With said first mentioned leaf, each of said slidably mounted bars having a recess formed therein for engaging said pair of leaves and locking the same in folded relation on said first mentioned leaf.
lInrtestimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification.
1 WILLIAM R. THOMSON.
