U ITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
DAVID S. ROUSH AND SEBASTIAN S. SARVER, OE LETART FALLS, OHIO.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 174,858, d ted Mar h 14, 1876; pplic i n filed September 9, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DAVID S. ROUSH and SEBASTIAN S. SARVER, both of Letart Falls, in the county of Meigs and ,State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Grain- Stancls or Bag-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawin g and the letters of reference marked thereon, making part of this specification, in wl:ich 1 Figure 1 represents our invention when designed to be used for the smallest-sized bag. Fig. 2 represents the same when used for the largest-sized bag.
The object of our invention is the construction ofa grain-stand or bag-holder that can be 1 easily and readily. adjusted for the use of holding any sized bag.
The natureof our invention consists in cutting slots in both the upper and lower bands, and in attaching each band to a separate series of legs or standards. The lower stand- :mls, or those to which the bottom band is attached, are hollow, and in them work the upper standards, or those to which'the top band is attached. The standards are held in position by means of thumb-screws, while the bands, after being either lengthened or shortened, are held by means of thumb-screws and nuts.
The construction and operation of our invention are as follows: A is the top band, and B the lower one. Both of these bands are constructed of hoop-iron, or any other suitable material, and are formed in one piece. 'In one end of the bandA is cut a slot, at, and in the other end is cut a slot, a, while in one end of the band B is cut a slot, 1), and in the other end is cut a slot, b, so that when the ends of the bands are brought together to form a hoop the slots to a will register, and the -slots 1) b will register. To the outer end of the hand A is secured a clasp, A, through which passes the other end of the band when the hoop is formed. A similar clasp, B, is secured in alike position on the band B. c c are pointed pins secured to the band A, and projecting above its top, upon which the bag is fastened. C is a thumb-screw, the shank of which passes through a washer, c, and also through the slots a a. By means of a nut, 0 on the inside of the band A this thumb-screw and washer hold. the band after it has been adjusted to the proper width of the bag to be filled. A similar thumb-screw, D, with a washer, cl, and nut cl, is used in connection with the band B, and for the same purpose. To the band are secured four legs or standards, E E, while to the band B are also secured four legs or standards, F F. These legs F F are hollow, and provided with thumbscrews G G. The legs E E pass and work in the hollow legs F F, and are held in position by means of the thumb-screws G G.
The operation is as follows: The bands A B are adjusted to the width of the bag to be filled by means of the thumb-screws G D and nuts 0 d, and legs E E are raised or lowered in the legs F F until the proper distance for the length of the bag is attained, when they are held in position by means of the thumbscrews G G. The bag is then hung on the pins of c and filled.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is In a grain-stand or bag-holder, the bands A B, having slotsa a and b b, thumb-screws C D, nuts 0 61, pins 0 c legs E 'F, and thumbscrews G G, the whole constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
D. S. ROUSH.
