This invention relates to gun sights, the general object of the invention being to provide a transparent member on the sight which contains Wm that the gun can be a e y aimed in the dark.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the front sight attachment can be readily placed over the front sight of the gun and the rear sight attachment can be readily attached to the rear sight of the gun.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifi cally pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of a gun showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a front View of the front sight attachment.
Figure 3 is a side view thereof.
Figures 4; and 5 are detail views.
Figures 6 and 7 are views of the rear sight attachment.
In these views A indicates the front attachment which is placed over the front sight of the gun and B is the rear sight attachment which is placed over the rear sight of the gun.
The front sight attachment comprises a metal frame 1 which is provided with the curved side members 2 for engaging the gun barrel and a socket 3 for receiving the front sight 4 of the gun. Thus the frame will be securely fastened to the barrel and over the front sight thereof. The frame is provided with a substantially cylindrical part 5, this part being located adjacent one end of the frame and extends above the upper edge of the socket. A transparent hollow body 6 is held in this part 5, the body having a flat lower part, as shown. of luminous material is placed upon the inner face of the rear end of said hollow body,
A vertical strip 7 this strip being in alignment with the front sight 4 and in front of the same when the attachment is in place so that this strip will take the place of the sight when the gun is used at night.
The rear sight attachment comprises a frame 8 which is provided with a substantially semi-cylindrical part 9 to receive a transparent body 10. The inner face of the rear end of this hollow body is provided with a horizontal strip 11 of luminous material, said strip having its center part provided with a curve 12 of semi-circular shape to form the sight. A slot 13 is formed in the frame to receive the rear sight leaf 14, the attachment being clamped to said leaf by the set screw 15.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the luminous strips in the transparent bodies will take the place of the gun sights when the gun is to be used at nlght so that accurate shooting at night may be done with a gun equipped with these luminous sights. The luminous material is thoroughly protected by being enclosed in the glass or transparent bodies and as the attachments are detachable they can be taken ofi when the gun is to be used in the day.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A gun sight comprising a frame, a hollow body of transparent material carried in the frame and a strip o f lumil gu illlailerial plmged 311 l; e! e'i""'face of the rear end of said body, said strip being vertically arranged on a portion of said end and forming a sight.
2. A gun sight comprising a frame, a hollow bod of transparent material arranged in the rame with its ends exposed and a strip of luminous material placed on a part of the inner face of the rear end of said body and forming a sight.
