This invention relates to a sight attachment for firearms, the primary object of the invention being to provide a removable gun sight which when positioned over the usual permanent gun sights of a gun barrel, will render the permanent gun sights more visible, particularly when the vision is dimmed by darkness or when the target is located in a shady spot.
Another object of the invention is to provide a gun sight attachment that may be readily and easily snapped into position, the attachment having a rim coated with luminous material, illuminating the opening through which the detachable gun sight is viewed, whereby the gun sight at the firing end of the gun will be illuminated for better vision and more accurate sight- Still another object of the invention is to provide a removable gun sight attachment so shaped that the corners thereof provide a perfect lineup for instant or quick aiming, and at no time is the target blinded from the vision.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an attachment which will substantially house a permanent gun sight eliminating glare caused from a high light striking the target from one direction and therefore eliminating optical illusions during the sighting.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed on in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a gun equipped with removable sights, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view through a removable sight attachment, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the removable sight attachment comprises a body portion constructed of substantially wide spring metal material, the body portion being indicated generally by the reference character 5.
As shown, the body portion is formed to pro- 2 vide an upper rectangular sight opening 6 and sprin leg members I that form continuations of the wall of the sight opening, the opening 6 being diamond shape.
The free ends of the spring leg members I are extended inwardly as at 8 to engage under the lower side edges of the usual gun sight base or gun sight base with which the device is used. It will thus be seen that these inturned ends cooperate with the inner surfaces of the leg members in clamping the gun sight base.
The edge of the gun sight opening is extended inwardly providing a flange on which a coating of luminous material is placed, the flange being indicated by the reference character 9. The luminous material is so located that the sight opening will be illuminated to insure more accurate aiming of the gun equipped with the device when vision is dimmed by darkness or when the target is disposed in a shaded spot, the luminous coating being indicated by reference character 10.
In the present showing the rear sight is indicated at A, while the forward sight is indicated by the reference character B.
The attachment when used in connection with the forward sight B, is somewhat different than the attachment used with the rear sight, since the leg members I0 thereof are formed with offsets I I that cooperate with the inwardly extended ends [2 of the legs ID in gripping the side edges of the base l3 of the gun sight.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided an attachment for use with the permanent gun sights of a firearm, the attachments being so constructed that they will provide openings which may be used in sighting the gun in lieu of the permanent sights, or if desired, the permanent sights may be used in sighting the gun, while the attachments are mounted thereon.
It will also be noted that because of applicants construction, the attachments may be readily and easily snapped into position over the bases of the permanent gun sights or removed at the will of the operator without the necessity of resorting to the use of tools and securing screws or bolts.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A gun sight attachment comprising a body portion formed of a length of resilient metal material bent upon itself providing a rectangular sight opening of substantially diamond shape and spaced yieldable leg members below said opening, the free ends of the leg members extending inwardly providing gripping members for gripping the base 01' a permanent gun sight on which the attachment is positioned.

A gun sight attachment comprising a body portion formed of a length of resilient material bent upon itself providing a rectangular sight opening of substantially diamond shape and spaced yieldable leg members below said opening, the free ends of the leg members extending inwardly providing gripping members for gripping the base oi a permanent gun sight on which the attachment is positioned, and a coating of luminous material on the wall of the sight opening, outlining the sight opening.
3. A gun sight attachment comprising a body portion formed of a length of resilient metal material constructed to provide a rectangular sight opening of substantially diamond shape and spaced yieldable leg members below said opening, the free ends of the leg members extending inwardly providing gripping members for gripping the base of a permanent gun sight on which the attachment is positioned, an inwardly extended marginal flange extending from the wall of the sight opening and a coating 01 luminous material coating the inner surface 01 thefla-nge outlining the sight opening.

A gun sight attachment comprising a body Number portion formed of a length of resilient material bent upon itself providing a rectangular sight opening and spaced resilient leg members below said opening, the free ends of the leg members being extended inwardly providing gripping members for gripping the base of a permanent gun sight on which the attachment is positioned, the leg members being secured to the bottom of the gun sight on which the attachment is positioned providing a sight opening through the space formed between the leg members.
