IMPROVEMENT IN CONNECTING-POSTS FOR ELECTRICAL APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,258, dated February 29, 1876; application filed December 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEROME KIDDER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Binder for Gon- .necting Electrical Conductors, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a sliding collar and a spring on the post under or over the conductor to be used instead of the ordinary binding-screw for binding the conductor, the spring pressing the collar against the conductor, which is put in the post over or under said collar, so as to be bound fast byit against one sideof the hole, and thus be held by pressure. Thecollar has a milled edge to facilitate the griping of it by the thumb and finger for pressing it down to admit and release the conductors.
This hinder has the advantage of being operated quicker than the screw, and it cannot be detached and lost like the screw, as there is a little nut on the top of the post- Which prevents it from coming off.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation and sectional elevation of binders, contrived according to my invention, the section being taken on line a; a: of Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a top view.

A represents the post, in which the hole B for the wire 0 is arranged in the ordinary or any approved way. D is the collar, and E the spring, for binding the wire, by pressing it againstthe side of the hole, and F is the nut or cap for retaining the collar on the post.
The coiled spring is no doubt the simplest and best for working the collar; but other forms ofsprings may be used.
The collar may be kept on the post by being attached to the spring, and the spring being attached to the post.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
The combination of a collar, D, and spring E with the conductor, binding-post A, substantially as specified.
