This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cultivators and has for its object the general improvement, including the simplification, of the adjustable slide movable longitudinally of the center or main beam of the cultivator for effecting lateral adjustments of the side beams thereof.
An additional object is to provide an adjustable slide formed from a. single piece of sheet metal suitably punched and folded.
A further object is to provide a one piece adjustable slide and a simplified and novel ponnection between the same and an operating ever.
Other and additional objects will appeal from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein there is shown a satisfactory embodiment of the invention. It is to be understood that this description and drawing are by way of illustration only and that reference must be had to the appended claims for a definition of the limitations of the invention.
In said drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a cultivator having the invention applied thereto, parts being broken away to show more clearly the application of the invention;

Referring in detail to the drawing, the cultivator includes a center beam 10, provided at its forward end with a hook or the like 11 to which a suitable draft means may be connected. Secured to the main or center beam 10 adjacent its forward end, is a mem- 50 ber 12 to which is hingedly or pivotally con- 1927. Serial No. 189,848.
nected, by means of bolts 13 or the like, the forward ends of the side beams 14 and 15.
* To the rear end of the center beam a suit able ground working shovel 16 is connected. Like shovels, designated 17, are mounted adjacent the forward and rear ends of the side beams and these beams are provided with pairs of bolt holes 18 whereby, if desired, additional shovels may be mounted.
Handles 19 are connected at their forward ends to the center or main beam as at 19"' and are braced intermediate their ends by means of stays or braces 20. These braces 20 are connected to the respective handles 19 and to the beam 10. Further, the side beams are .connected to the handles and the handles additionally braced by means of relatively long braces 21.
Mounted on the center beam 10 for movement longitudinally thereof is an adjustable slide 22. The slide is of one piece and is preferably formed of sheet metal, fold ed into a U-shape; As shown the slide includes a top 23 arranged alongthe upper side of the beam, a bottom 24 arranged at the under side of the beam, and a connecting portion 25. The connecting portion is provided with a centrally located slot 26 to receive the beam 10.
Bolt holes 27 and 28 are formed in the top 23 and bottom 24 at opposite sides of the center thereof whereby bolts passing through said holes and connecting the top and bottom are at opposite sides of the beam. A hole 29 is provided in the top 23 for a purpose to be described.
After positioning part 12, slide 22 is placed on the beam 10 from rear end. Pairs of links 30 and 31 are pivotally connected with the slide at opposite sides of beam 10 by means of bolts or other. fastening means 32 passed through the bolt holes 27 and 28. Sleeves or ferrules 33 are mounted on the bolts 32 and extend into holes 27 and 28 in the top and bottom of the slide and serve to maintain it in proper position both vertically and laterally of the beam 10 and thereby prevent binding. The remote ends of the links 30 and 31 are pivotally connected to the side beams 14 and 15 respectively.
It will be apparent that movement of the through the opening orhole 29 'in the slide (Figs. 2 and 3) The lever 84 carries a spring pressed looking bolt 36 for cooperation with a toothed segment 37 to maintainv the lever in the-desired position. This bolt is slidably mou'ntedina U-shaped clip 38 carried by theleverfia and is normally urged downwardly into iengagement with the segment by means of acoil spring 89. A pivotedhand piece 40 is adapted formanipulation to withdraw the bolt from'engagement withthe segmena by means ofconnecting rod 4:1,to permit movement "of slide 22.
When the bolt 36lis withdrawn lfrom en- .gagement with the.toothed.segmentythe-lever 34 maybe swung-rearwardly to impart a similar movement to .the I. slide. This (assuming the partstobe in'the position shown in Fig. 1) will result. in.the ,links .30 and '31 being moved to form a straight line, relatively, and accordingly :the side-beams will be moved away from the main beamso that awiider path will be cultivated. The bolt locks the parts in their new position. v
Since theslidei22 is formed from a single sheet of stock, suitably 'punched and. folded or'bent it lends itselftoquantity production. From this it will be readily seen that the simplified connection between lever 3e and slide 22 provides for-comp1ete control-of the: slide b, the .lever.
