IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED WATCH CHARMS AND KEYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,848, dated February 22, 1876; application filed December 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK DEVER, of Glen Riddle, Delaware county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Combined Watch Charm and Key, of which the following is a specifiction:
Figure 1 represents a side view of my imby suitable catch device.
In the drawing, A represents a small case, made of gold or other metal, in the shape of a small watch-case, locket, or other suitable form. A watchkey, B, with a square stem or shank, slides along guide-piece a (liametrically in the case, and is acted upon by a band or other spring, I), that tends to throw the cannon of the key through a guide-hole to the outside of the case, so that the key protrudes sufficiently to be readily used for winding the made of hook shape and engaged by a springacted hook, c, that may be attached to the suspension-ring of the chain.
The catch-hook c is forced sidewi-se by pressing the key back into the case until its book end is engaged by the catch-hook e that slides in a slot of the case. Any suitable springcatch may be employed to lock the key within the case after use, the key being instantly released and thrown outward on withdrawing the catch device from the hook end of the key. This is. accomplished by pressing 011 the ring or other releasing mechanism.
An elegant and convenient watch charm and key is thus furnished, which combines the advantages of both articles in a simple, neat,
' and useful manner.
Having thus described my invention, I clail as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of an inclosing-case with a sliding and springacted key guided therein, and a spring-catch device, substantially as specified.
PATRICK DEVER.
Witnesses JOHN DEVI,
SUsEN DIVER.
