Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,845, dated February 22, 1876; application filed January 15, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, EDWARD G. OLINGH,
"of St. John, St. John county, Province of New Brunswick, Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved Pipe-Wrench, of which the following is a specification:- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved pipe-wrench, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an,
improved wrench for turning pipes, bolts, &c., which shall be simple in. construction, convenient in use, and effective in operation, grasping the pipe with anincreased force as more power is applied to the wrench.
The invention consists in an improved pipewrench, formed by the combination .of the parallel-toothed jaws, the handle. and one or more pivoted connecting-links with each other,

one of which is made with its rear end projectin g to serveas a handle, 0, or has a handle 0, attached to it. The inner sides of the forward parts of the jaws A B incline slightly from each other, to adapt them for operating upon different-sized pipes, and have teeth formed between the links.

.Having thus described my invention, I secure by Letters formed upon them pointing in different dire'c- Q tions, as shown in Fig. l. The'rear parts of thejaws A B are connected by two bars or links, D, the ends of which are pivoted to the said two jaws to keep them always parallel with each other. With this constructionfas the wrench is turned, the jaws A B will grasp H the pipe or other object, and will grasp it with greater force as more power is applied to the wrench. If desired, the forward parts of the jaws'A B may be omitted, and the teeth- The rear link D may be omitted and the rear end of the jaw A allowed to rest and slide upon the rear part of the jaw B.
