Description

G. HAYES.
METALLIC-SHUTTER.
Patented Feb 22', 1976.
-PETERS, PHOTO-LITHDGRAPHFIR WASHINGTON, D C
t NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
GEORGE HAYES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN METALLIC SHUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,787, dated February 22, 1876; application filed November 19, 1875.
' OAsE B.
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
7 Be it known that I, GEORGE HAYES, of No. 71 Eighth Avenue, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Panels for Window l Blinds, Shutters, Doors, Screens, and to take the place of movable or stationary slats for all purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
Same invention has for its object, or certain of them, the same as those described in my application for patent which was filed inthe Patent Office October 23, 1875, and marked Case A, namely, to obstruct the direct rays of the sun while it excludes insects.
This invention, being devoid of loose or movable joints, cannot get out of repair as does the blinds now in use, and which are costly to keep in repair.
My improvement consists in making a panel composed of a plate of perforated metal or a sheet of wire-cloth secured to the usual framework of blinds, &c., and strips of metal or other suitable material that are not perforated,
bent, or-formed into slats either of an angular or curved shape, which are distributed over the face of the perforated plate or wire-cloth running parallel with each other, and presenting a blank surface to the sun, thereby shielding it from its direct rays.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view of a panel. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correform of a ledge, secured and distributed over its outward surface, as herein described, for
the purpose set forth.
