A very important fact is that the entire mechanism of the device is of a very simple construction, and of the lowest'valued materialsconsistent with the requirements, and in this connection all of the Vbevel-gears indicated may be of a similar material, as the duty they are to perform does not of course necessitate a great amountrof strengthn The general framework ofV both units may be composed of a medium-light sheet metal, andv likewise' the shafts and other parts are of a simple and e low-valued material.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new is:

a lower mechanical unit disposed within a vertical stove-pipe, actuated by' aneXtern'ally arranged crank, a spirally disposed wire within the said stove-pipe, one end ofwhich is connected vto the said unit; an upper mechanical unit disposed within the elbow of the stovepipe, said unit comprisinga" metal strip with the ends thereof'formedso as to conform to the said elbow, and secured thereto, an additional metal'strip completing the framework of the said upper unit, a vertical shaft and a horizontal shaft mountedon said strips, a bevelfgear securedto eachl of the said shafts, and said gears to properly mesh; 'a sleeve diss posed upon the outer end of each of the said shafts, a spirally disposed `'wire'to operate within the horizontal section of ythe said stovepipe, and oneend thereof connected to the lsaid sle'eve of the aforesaid horizontal'shaft,l and one end of the said spiral wire'within the verticalfsection of the said stove-pipe connected tothe sleeve of the said vertical shaft, so that whenthe aforesaid lower'unit is actuated by the said external crank therefor, the said spirally disposed wire'within the verticaland horizontal sections 'of the stovepipe will simultaneously rotate within the said f p1pes,specilica1ly for the purposedis'closed. l
