Description

Jan. 16, 1934. G. MADRO CLEANOUT FOR STOVE PIPES OR ELBOWS Filed May 51, 1932 Inventor .w M M Am flllomey Patented Jan. 16, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in pipes or elbows for stoves and furnaces and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the pipe or elbow can be easily and quickly cleaned without taking down the pipe.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout theseveral views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a sectional view thru an elbow showing the invention in use.
Fig. 2 is a View of the base attachment or ring. In these views, the numeral 1 indicates a casting or ring which is adapted to be fastened around an opening 2 in. an elbow A, or in a pipe, if desired, and this ring or casting has a seat forming portion thereon for a cover member 3 which is formed with a flange 4 for fitting partly within the casting as shown in Fig. 1. The casting is formed with an inwardly extending ear 5 which is slightly offset inwardly and has a threaded opening 6 therein to receive the threaded part of a shaft '7, the unthreaded portion of which passes through an enlarged part of the cover member 3 into a knob 8 to which it is fastened by the pin 9. From the foregoing it will be seen that when it is desired to clean out the elbow or pipe, it is simply necessary to turn the knob 8 in a direction to loosen the screw part of the shaft so that the cover member 3 can be moved to a position to expose the opening in the casting or ring and then any suitable means can be used to clean the ashes and soot from the pipe or elbow.
After the parts are cleaned, the cover 3 is moved back into closing position and the knob 8 turned to cause the shaft to tightly close the cover member against the casting.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:-
In a device of the class described, a seat forming member having an opening therein, an inwardly offset ear connected with said member and 7 extending into the opening and having a threaded opening therein, a cover for closing the opening of the seat forming member and having a rib thereon for engaging the internal wall of the seat forming member, said cover having a smooth hole passing therethrough adjacent an edge part thereof, a shaft having a reduced smooth portion passing through the hole, the inner part of the shaft being enlarged and threaded and passing through the hole in the ear, the junction of the enlarged part of the shaft with the smooth part forming a shoulder for engaging the cover to lift the same when the shaft is turned in one direction, and a knob connected to the outer end of the shaft for rotating the same and for holding the cover on the smooth part of the shaft.
