Description

" WITNESS:
Nw. 5,1929 4 W J DUFICY H3439? BAR 'RATCHET FOR SCREEN ROLLERS Original Filed July 28, 1927'v INVE OR AT'roRNEY Patented Nov. 5, `192,9
WILLIAM J. DUFFICY, OF DENVER, COLOR-ADO l BAR nnfronnr non sonnen noLLnns original application mea my as, 1927, serial no. faoetiofA niviaeii mi this application inea March 12,
1928, Serial No. 261,112.
This invention relates to a means-for holding a spring roller against movement, the general objectof the invention being to provide the roller with an annular row of holes f in one end, with a manually movable bar having one end shaped to engage any one of the holes to hold the roller in adjusted position. This invention is more particularly designed for use with the window screen and p .end of the roller 2 and a bar 8 which has its 60 1U its spring roller shown in an application filed by me on July 29, 1927, Serial No. 209,340.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several l parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which z- Figure 1 is a view, partly in section, of the upper part of a window, with a screen carried by a spring roller and showing the improved means for holding the roller in adjusted position.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vi ated bar.
Figure 4 is a view of the guide for the bar. In these views, A indicates the frame and B the sash slidably mounted therein. The frame is formed with a chamber 1 in which is journaled a spring roller 2 to which one end of a screen 3 is connected. This screen passes through a slot 4 formed in the vbottom m of the chamber and the lower end of the screenA has attached thereto a member which is provided with a pair of keeper eyes which are adapted to be engaged by parts of a latch rod slidably mounted in the upper end of the sash B and which is movable longitudinally through means of a handle 5 attached tothe rod and extending through a slot 6 formed in the sash. By moving this rod through means of its handle 5, the screen can be attached to or detached from the sash. The
ew of the manually oper- Renewed April '24, 192e.
above described arrangement forms the subi ject matter of the application before mentioned. y
In order to prevent 'the spring in the roller from pulling the screento the top of the winv dow opening when it is released from the l sash, I provide ratchet means for preventing movement of the roller. Such means comrise an annular row of holes 7 formed in one lower end bent at rightangles to form a shaft" 9 which is journaled in a bracket 10 fastened to a part of the frame, the upper end of the rod being bent, as shown at 11, to engage any one of the holes 7. The end of the shaft part c5 9 passes through the face of the frame where it receives a knob 12 so thatl the rod can be manipulated to place its end 11 into or out of engagement with one of the holes 7. An elongated bracket 13 is fastened to the frame 7o and forms a guide for the rod 8 during its movement.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by turning the knob 12 and thepart 9, the eX- tremity 11 of the rod 8 can be moved into 75 engagement with one of the holes 7 so as to prevent turning movement of the roller under the action of its spring. This will hold the screen stationary while it is being attached to or detached from the sash. so
It is vthought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that I may make y changes in the construction and in the com- .e5
bination and arrangement' of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
A What I claimis N1. Means for holding a spring roller'jeo againstturning movement comprising a rod having one .end shaped to engage any one of a number of holes in one end of the roller, the other end of the rod being bent at rightangles to form a shaft, a knob on the end of this shaft part and means for rotatably supi' portingthe shaft part.V
2. In combination with a frame having a window opening, and-- a spring rollerv carrying a screen, means for holding the roller in i adjusted position, comprising a rod having one end bent to form a shaft, a bracket fastened' to the'i'rame of the Window and in which the shaft part is rotatably mounted, the end of the shaft part extending'y through the frame, aV knob on the Vextended part, the other end ofv the rod being bent, one end of the j roller having a plurality of holes therein, any
one of which is adapted to receive the bent end of the rod and a guiding bracket for the rod fastened to the frame.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
