Description

7 Hm W" I HJHM v Aug. 27, 1929. F. wAssERBAcH 1,726,003
- CURTAIN CONTROLLER Filed NOV. 30, 1928 Y E7012 Wwmrhufi- Patented Aug. 27, 1929.
Unrrso STATES FRANZ WASSERBACH, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK.
CURTAIN" CONTROLLER.
Application filed November 30, 1928. Serial No. 322,744.
This invention relates to devices for retaining the lower, free ends of common window curtains in adjustment.
It is desirable to maintain the lower ends of curtains, as used in dwellings, ofiices and like places, at as nearly a uniform height as possible, and because of the difference in spring tension of the curtain rolls this condition is difficult to maintain; besides which, if the curtain is subjected to air currents, as
- when the window is open, further difficulty is encountered.
It is therefore the purpose of the present invention to produce a simple but effective device whereby the lower end of a curtain may be maintained in any desired adjustment in an easy and positive manner.
A further feature is in the provision of means capable of being readily applied to any ordinary type of curtain and readily engaged within the sash groove of any win dow at any preferred height.
Another object is to provide such devices suited to engage with windows having various thicknesses of sash, and, due to their simplicity, can be made at a moderate cost.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of few and simple parts, as hereinafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary view perspective of a window corner showing an application of the device to a curtain.
Figure 2 is a partial longitudinal sectional view of the same in operative position.
Figure 3 is a side view of the device in detail.
Figure 1- is an edge view of the same.
In the drawing the numeral 1.0 designates in general the wall of a building, having a window opening provided with a frame 11 having guides 12 and 13 for slidable sash, as at 14.
The curtain 15 is presumed to hang from a roll pivoted at its ends to freely rotate at the upper end of the frame, the roll (not shown), being of the spring actuated type to roll up the curtain when freed from restraint.
The bottom of the curtain 15 is hemmed and in this hem is positioned a stiffening member, as the wooden barlfi, all the fore going elements being old and of well known construction.
The invention consists in securing to the bar 16, preferably at one end, an eye 17 in which is secured one end of a short, light weight chain 18, the other end of which may be connected to a ring 19, movable along a rod 20 of spring wire.
The rod 20 has preferably formed at one end an elongated eye 21, serving as a handle,
while the other end is offset, as at 22, and bent to form an elongated loop 23, the long diameter of which-is somewhat greater than the width of the guide 12.
The offset portion 22 is suited to permit the loop 23 to engage the bottom of the guideway, and its curved ends 2 1, due to the resiliency of the wire, impinge strongly against the inner adjacent surface of the guideway when the bar portion 22 is raised, as seen in Figures 1 and 2.
The ring 19 is free to slide along the bar portion, but is prevented from slipping off by the eye 21 and offset element 22.
It will be apparent that this simple device may be raised and lowered as may be desired, that it is effective, and inexpensive to produce.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A roller curtain controller adapted to be mounted on the wooden bar within the hem at the lower end of the curtain, and comprising a chain attached at one end to the end of said wooden bar, a spring wire rod, a ring movable along said rod, to which the other end of said chain is connected, an elongated eye formed atone end of said rod. serving as a handle, an offset formed intermediate the ends of said rod, an elongated open loop formed at the offset and by the bent other end of said rod, the long diam eter of said loop somewhat greater than the width of a window sash guide for permitting a compression of the open loop for strongly impinging against the inner adjacent face of the guideway and allowing a ready adjustment of the curtain at any desired height:
In witness thereof I have affixed my signa u e,
FRANZ wAssnaBAcn,
