An angle bracket plate 1 1, is mounted about midway between the upper and lower ends of the window frame stile 4. Said bracket plate is provided with an aperture to pivotally receive engaged therethrough a hook member 15, which is secured to one end of a brace or cross rod 16. The other end of the cross rod 16, is bent over at an angle. A notched bracket plate 17,. is rigidly secured to the frame stile 5, opposite from the bracket plate 14:, and is adapted to removably receive the free end of said cross rod 16, seated in the notch thereof.
A pivotally mounted gravity acting retaining pawl 18, is mounted on said bracket plate 17, acting normally to lock the free end of said cross rod 16,therein, and further acting to wedge said rod more tightly in the notched bracket plate 17, if there is a tendencyfor the rod to be swung up without first releasing the pawl. hen swung upwardly the pawl 18, permits retraction of the end of said cross rod, from the notched plate, so that said rod may swing downwardly alongside of the window frame into a position out of use, for instance, during the cleaning of the window glass. if preferred, the awning may be used without Y the cross rod to permit the awning fabric guide to fall or be extended outwardly from the top, instead of holding the upper portion of the fabric disposed in the plane of the window, as is the case when the cross rod is in horizontal position.
Connected to the lower hemmed margin of the awning fabric, is a U-shaped extend-' ing bar or bracket 19, having secured upon the ends of the arms thereof end caps 20, each of which has integrally formed to one side of the outer end thereof a longitudinally projecting outwardly directed angle arm 21, having integrally formed on the end thereof an enlarged gudgon guide head 22.

The lower margins of the side walls 26, are bent inwardly at right angles to afford lugs, flanges or projections 30 and 31 projecting inwardly an amount equal to the width of the respective front wall portions to afford an opening in the bottom of the socket equal in width to the width of the slot 29. The lower ends of the front wall portions are bent rearwardly at right angles below the flanges 30 and 31, to form brace members 32 and 33, respectively. Itwill thus be seen that the slot 29, is continued back to the rear wall of the socket, andthat the flan cs 30 and 31, afford suitable stops whic are braced by the brace members 32 and 33. The lower guide holders are secured to the lower portions of the front surfaces ofthe window frame stiles 4 and 5, by means of screws 34, which engage through the apertures in the holder mounting plates 23. The extension bracket isthus held extended in substantially awhorizontalposition against the ac- :tion ofthe rollerspring, to hold the lower" tension bracket, whereby the action of the roller spring acts to automatically roll the awning fabric upon the roller drawing the extension bracket 19, upwardly therewith in front of the guide mechanisms.
One of the important features of the invention is the arrangement and the mounting of the interchangeable guide mechanisms on the front surfaces of the window The upper guide holders-and the guidetubes are open at the top topermit the gudgeon heads 22, of the extension bracket 19 to be inserted in position after the upper guide holders are mounted on the window frame. The extension may also be removed from engagement with theguide mechanisms when desired without removing any of the mounting screws of the guide tube holders.
I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles'of this inven tion, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination with an awning and the extension bracket thereof, of slotted stationary guide means for said extension bracket acting as stops against the inward swing of said extension bracket when the awning is operated.
2. The combination with an awning, of a mounting comprising longitudinally slotted guides secured 011 the front surfaces of an awning support, and an extension bracket attached to said awning and slidably engaged in said guides which guides also serve as stops to hold said bracket against falling inwardly toward the support when the awning is operated.
3. The combination with an awning adapted to be mounted on a building or structure, of an extension bracket attached to said awning, lower guide holders attached to said tacted by said bracket to hold the same from swinging inwardly toward the: structure thereby insuring proper operation of said bracket whenthe awning is lowered.
4:. The" combination with an awning 5 mounted in a window frame, of an extension bracket attached to sald awning, and a gulde mechanlsm for said bracket secured to the front surface of said window frame and embracing a slotted lower holder, a slotted guide tube seated therein and having said bracket slidably engaged therewith, and a slotted upper holder engaging the upper end of said guide tube to hold the same in posia slotted lower holder, stops formedthereon,
a lock lug formed in said lower holder, a slotted channel guide engaged in said lower holder and resting on said lock lug, and an upper holder engaged on the upper end of said guide tube andsecured to said frame to hold the guide tube in position, said upper holder also acting as a stop for said bracket to insure an outward throw thereof when the awning is lowered and said bracket strikes against said lower holder stops whereby said bracket is swung outwardl into substantially horizontal extended pos1- pion and lockingly engaged below said lock ug. The combination with an awning extension bracket, ofa frame guide mechanism therefor embracing a slotted lower holder, stops integral therewith, an integral lock lug formed in said lower holder,'a slotted channel'guideprojecting into said lower holder andseated on said lock lug, an upper holder engaged on the upper end of said channel guide and secured to said frame to hold said channel guide in position, and lugs integral I with said upper holder to hold said channel guide against upward movement, Said bracket be ng slidably engaged with said channel guide and adapted when lowered to strike said lower holder stops and swing outwardly to engage beneathsaid lock lug. Aguide mechanism for an awning extension bracket, said mechanism embracing a slotted lower holder, a slotted guidechannel engaged and supported therein, and a slotted upper holder engaged on said guide channel to hold the same in position, said slotted members being assembled with the slots therein" registering with one another to form acontinuous guide slot to permit sliding operation of the bracket therein.
8. The combination with an. awning extension bracket,.of a guide mechanism comprising a slotted lower holder, a slotted guide tube supported therein, and a slotted upper holder engaged on the upper open end of said guide tube to hold the same in position, said upper holder being open at the'top to removably receive the extension bracket to permit the same to slidably operate in the continuous guide slot formed by the registering slots of said holders and said guide tube.
