Patented Oct. 29, 1929 UNITED sraras HENRY S. ROSENI'HAL,
oF CINCINNATI, oHIo' GARMENT-REIPAIR KIT Application filed June 13,
This invention relates to a kit or container adapted to hold articles for use in repairing garments, and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a kit or container of the character stated which is of simple and durable structure, and which may be conveniently carried in the pocket of a garment for ready use.
A further Object of the invention is to provide a kit consisting of a single blank of material foldable along lines between its ends to form a case and with securing devices for connecting the end aps together.
A still further object of the inventionl is to provide at the intermediate portion of thel blank a holder consisting of a length of elastic tape applied to the inner surface ofthe said portion of the blank, and which extends the full length thereof. Securing staples pass transversely through the said elastic tape at spaced intervals and the spaces between the said staples form compartments for the reception of the articles which are used during the repairing of a garment as for instance, a packet of buttons, threaded'needles, and vials containing emulsified or liquid spot cleaners and fabric menders.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the device showing the parts thereof closed.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the parts open.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view, cut on the line 3-8 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional View, cut* on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing, the garment repair kit comprises a sheet 1 of relatively stiff cardboard or other suitable material, having score lines 2 disposed transversely thereof, and which divides the said sheet into an intermediate portion' and end flaps 3. The end flaps 3 are provided with fasteners 4 similar to glove fasteners. A length of elastic tape 5 is disposed along the median longitudinal dimensionl of the intermediate portion of the sheet 1 and the end edges of the said tape are flush with the end edges of the said portion of the sheet. Staples 1927. serial No. 198,520.
6 pass transversely through the tape 5 at spaced intervals and divide the said tape into retaining sections 7 These retaining sections may hold various articles as, for instance threaded needles 8, a packet of buttons 9 and tubes or vials 10, which contain liquid or semiliquid garment repairing substances. The end portions of the staples are passed through the sheet 1 and are clinched against the outer surface thereof, and a cover 11 is supplied to the exterior surface of the sheet 1 and is disposed over the ends of the staples so that the same are complctely'concealed.
l/Vhen the container is closed, the parts are in thepostion as shown in Figure 1 of the drawingV and theffastener members 4 are interengaged with each other so that the garment mending devices are completely enclosed. When the securing devices are disconnected from each other, the sheet 1 may be opened and the parts will assume the positions as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing when any one of thearticles may be withdrawn from the elastic tape, and consequently, the said article is ready at hand for use upon the garment.
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that a garment repair kity of simple 'form4 is provided and that the same will properly maintain the several articles in convenient form for ready use when required or desired.
From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved device, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and eflicient means for carrying out the objects of my invention and while I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention. v
Having described my invention what I claim is:
A garment repair kit of the class described, comprising a sheet of relatively stiff cardboard having score lines formed therein transversely at predetermined points dividing said l sheet into an intermediate portion and -end flaps, a length of elastic tape disposed along the median longitudinal dimensions of the intermediate portion of said sheet, the end Y edges of said tape being Hush with the end edges of said intermediate portion, a plurali- Vty of metallic staples passing transversely through the tape and. through the" sheet, staples being clinched on the outer face of the intermediate portion of said sheet, certain staples being securedto the elastic sheet immediately adjacent the end edges of the Y latter and the intermediate staples being' a-p-l plied in spaced pairs, one pair on each side ot the median transverse dimension of said intermediate portion of thesheet7 whereby to provide a predetermined number of wide elastic Y retaining sections and a predetermined number of narrow elastic retaining sections,v a covering for the outer faces ot the intermediate and end flaps of saidy sheet coi/ering the f clinched portions of the staples and mean-s for fastening the end flaps together in overlapping relation, as and. for theV purposes described. y i
In testimony whereof I ath'x my sionature.
