LIP GUARD Filed April l. 3.948
Patented Dec. 6, 1950 UNITED STATES hTENT OFFICE LIP GUARD Edward J. Meunier, Johnston, R. I.
Application April 1, 1948, Serial No. 18,440
3 Claims.
This invention relates to a guard for the lips for use when a person is putting on a dress.
It quite frequently occurs that in putting on a dress over the head the lips which are coated with lipstick contact and soil the dress; and, although in some cases this lipstick may be removed, it is of great annoyance to shop keepers to have the goods smeared with lipstick One of the obiects of this invention is to provide a guard which may be readily placed over the lips so as to prevent them from contacting the dress when placed over the head.
Another object of this invention is to provide a guard which mav be made inexpensively, and thus one which may be thrown away after use.
Another object of this invention is to provide a guard which may be held in place by placing a part in the mouth.
Another obiect of this invention is to provide a guard which may be placed in the mouth and will be comfortable while being held to protect the lips.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novell features of construction as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the guard;
Figure 2 is a top plan View of the guard blanked out from sheet stock.
Figure 3 is an edge view cf the guard after the same has been formed. and the lipovering portions-have been shaped; and
Figure 4 is a face view of the guard in its position in use.
In proceeding with this invention, I blank from a sheet of parier which has been suitably treated, a shape which may thereafter be shaped into a form desired.
l designates a blank which is cut to provide lip-covering members l l at either end, and a connecting strip l2 which will be folded along the score lines I3 adiacent the lip-covering members and folded along the score line i4 midway between these fold lines I3. This strip is imperforate or without opening or cut outs which will permit distortion. Thus, there is provided a mouth-entering portion I5 which joins the two lip-coveri-ngmembers l l. Each of these lip-covering portions is further formed by heat and pressure, so as to be curved longitudinally or lengthwise of the lip cover, and also curved laterally of the lip cover so as to provide a convex surface I6 with a concave inner surface which will readily fit the outward protrusion of the lips.
In use, the guards will be sold flat as shown in Figure 3 and one of these guards will be folded along the crease lines and supplied to a person who is about to put upon themselves a dress which goes over the head. The mouth portion l5 will be inserted 'in the mouth and the parts Il will cover each of the lips in such a fashion that the lipstick on the lips will be fully covered and in such a fashion that the lipstick will not be disturbed by the use of the device.
I claim:
1. A guard for the lips comprising a pair of members each being of a size to cover one of the lips and each member being arcuate lengthwise and laterally thereof to receive the lips therein and an integral connecting strip adapted to be inserted in the mouth when folded and having its opposite ends attached to said members.
2. A guard for the lips as in claim l where said strip is imperforate.
3. A blank for a lip guard comprising a strip of material having lip receiving end portions molded to be arcuate lengthwise and laterally thereof to receive the lips therein, said strip being scored adjacent said arcuate portions for folding in one direction and scored midway between said arcuate portions for folding in the other direction to provide a mouth entering mid portion of said blank.
EDWARD J. MEUNIER.
