Description
Aug. 23, 1932.
S. E. BOHNER EYELID GUARD Filed Oct. 20, 1931 Hf? ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 23, 1932 UNITED srrss SARAH n. BOHNER, or sanrnanorsco, CALIFORNIA EYELID' euann Application filed October 20, 1931. Serial No. 9,974; I
My invention relates to an implement for use in connection with the application of cosmetics, and particularly to a guard for protecting the eyelid when the eyelashes are 5 being colored or painted.
' It is among the objects of my invention to provide a guard by the use of which coloring matter may be painted or otherwise applied to the eyelashes without danger of the paint 10 becoming smeared over the eyelid.
Another objectof my invention is to provide a guard which will assist in the application of the coloring matter by supporting the eyelashes during the painting operation.
Further objects of my invention include the provision of an eyelid guard of the-character described which may be used conveniently and Without discomfort.
The invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth in the following description of my invention. It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to this disclosure of species of my invention, as I may adopt variant embodiments thereof within the scope of the claims.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevationalview showing the eyelid guard embodying my invention; and
Figure 2 is an end view of the same.
Figure 3 is a perspective View showing the guard in use.
In terms of broad inclusion, the eyelid guard embodying my invention comprises a preferably flexible sheet curved to fit over the eyeball and having an edge thereof curved to register with the edge of the eyelid when closed; the guard being adapted for placement between the eyelid and eyelashes to support the lashes and to protect the lid when the lashes are being painted or otherwise colored. In the preferredform of my invention the guard sheet is of a light material, r such as celluloid, and has preferably integrally formed therewith a handle for assisting in manipulating the guard.
In greater detail, the eyelid guard embodying my invention comprises a sheet 2 preferably of a light flexible material, such as celluloid, and has preferably integrally formed therewith a suitable handle The handle 3 may be formed in any desirable manner, such as by coiling up an elongated portion of the sheet into a cylindricallyshapedfhandle, as shown. It is-to be understood however that the handle may be of any suitable shape or form. Thesheet'Q, as best shown in F igure 2, i's
curved to fit over the eyeball, and the upper edge 4 of the sheet," as best shown in Figure 1, is curved inwardly to register with theedge of the eyelid when closed. The curvature of the sheet and the upper curved edge thereof readily adaptsthe guard-for placement between the eyelid and eyelashes to support the lashes and to protect the lid when the lashes are being painted. The particular construction. of the guard, namely the formation of the outwardly projecting Wing portions 6, t0-
gether with the flexibility of the material used in the sheet 2, gives a certain degree of flex to the guard and permits it to conform to a certain extent with the shape of a particular persons eye.
In use, as illustrated in Figure 3, the handle 3 of the guard is grasped by the hand and the guard sheet 2 placed over the lower eyelid with the upper curved edge ft positioned at the base of the eyelashes. By now closing the eye the eyelashes of the upper lid are brought down and together with the lashes of the lower lid lie on the upper surface of the guard sheet 2. This provides a support for painting or otherwise applying the coloring matter to the lashes, and at the same time protects the lower lid from being smeared by the paint. Of course the device may be used on each eyelid separately if desired.
I claim:
1. An eyelid guard comprising a sheet adapted for placement between the lower eyelid and the eyelashes to support the lashes and to protect the lid when the lashes are being colored, the upper edge of said sheet terminating at the base of the lashes.
2. An eyelid guard comprising a handle.
and a sheet secured to the handle and adapted for placement between the lower eyelid and the eyelashes to support the lashes and to protect the lid when the lashes are being colored, the upper edge of said sheet terminating at the base of the lashes.
3. An eyelid guard comprising a flexible sheet adapted for placement betwen the lower eyelid and the eyelashes to supoprt the lashes and to protect the lid when the lashes are being colored the upper edge of said sheet terminating at the base of the lashes.
4:. An eyelid guard comprising a sheet curved to fit over the eyeball and having the upper edge thereof curved to register with the edge of the eyelid when closed, saidsheet being adapted for placement between the lower eyelid and the eyelashes to support the lashes andto protect the lidwhen the lashes are being colored, said sheet covering the lower eyelid only so that the upper lid is free to move.
5. An eyelid guard comprising a sheet adapted for placement over the lower eyelid only'so that the upper lid is free to move, and upon which the lashes'of both lids are adaptedto lie when the eye is closed so that the sheet provides a support for the'lashes and protectionfor the lid when thelashes are being colored. V 'v V 1 In testimony whereof Ihave hereunto set my hand.
SARAH E. BOHNER.
