My invention relates to improvements in water tube steam boilers, and'has for one of its objects the provision of battle means whereby the heated gases are directed over the tubes in a predetermined path.
Another object of my invention is to provide a three-drum boiler, the drums so arranged that feed water may be admitted into one of the drums and kept out of circulation a until the entire path of the heated gases has travelled through the boiler, thereby permitting the .use of foul feed water in the boiler, the solid matter of said foul feed water being precipitated within that 4part of the boiler located farthest away from the extreme heat.
The invention has among its other objects the production of a device of the 'kind described which is simple, convenient, compact, durable, reliable, efcient and satisfactory for '20V use wherever found applicable.
Many other objects Aand advantages of the construction herein shown and described will be obvious togthose skilled in the art from the disclosures herein given.
To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

It will be noted that the adjacent banks of tubesV are spaced apart a distance 'suiiicient to permit the entrance of a person therebetween for the purpose of inspecting, clean` ing, repairing, or otherwise. Doors or openings 12 are provided in the side walls of the setting to permit the entrance of a person therethrough into the space between the adjacent banks of tubes. Atthe rear of the setting intermediate the drums 7 and 8 is arranged a stack or flue 13 from which spent `gases are discharged.
The feed water is introduced by-a pipe14 into the drum 8, said drum being arranged at the coolest part of the boilerv so'that the solids contained in said feed water may precipitate slowlytothe bottom of the drum v and drain off, if desired, through the pipe 15.
In order to direct the heated gases' arising from the fuel bedover the banksof tubes inV .a predetermined path, suitable baiiles are provided. The baiile 17 ext-ends from the bridge wall 4 along the bottom of thetubes 9 toward the front of the boiler.` yThe baliie`18 is ar-` ranged on thetop of the bank of tubes` 9, extending from the front drum to adjacent' the drum 7. The baille 19 is arranged on top of the bank of tubes 10 and extends from the drum 7 to adjacent the front drum. The top wall 20 of the boiler setting forms substantially a battle 'above the bank of tubes 11, the heated gases passing through the boiler along the tubes in the direction indicated by the arrows in the drawing. f

7 In a device of the class described and in combination, a boiler having a pair of reai` drums arranged in spaced vertical alignment, a front drum arranged yin a horizontal plane above the rear drums and in a vertical plane spaced from that of the rear drums, two series of tubes vertically spaced from each other and connecting said front drum with the lower of said rear drums, tubes connecting the upper of said rear drums with said front drum., battles for directing the gases over said tubes in a predetermined manner, one of said battles being disposed between the two series of tubes communicating with the lower of said rear drums, and a gas outlet disposed in a plane between said rear drums.
