Description

oct. 29, 1929. TURNER 1,733,680
FORM RETAINING DEVICE FOR GLOVES Filed June 18, 1926 7 I) fv'jc gn'for .zitfior/ney of the glove.
Patented Oct 29, 1929 1 UNITED" STATES PATENT/OFFICE I MILDRED 1a. TURNER, or soon: EUCLID, onro FORM-RETAINING 'DEVIGE FOR GLOVES Application filed June 18,
drying leather gloves after they have been 5 Washed they have been driedupon the hand,
to retain their shape, which is an inconvenient and uncomfortable process.
To overcome these difiicultiesthe form'retainer is constructed of heavy spring wire shaped to conform to the outline of the hand to be fitted. -The extremities of the wire are adjustably connected together across the wrist portion and may be rigidl clamped at any desired adjusted position 0 the parts.
Since the greatest amount of shrinking of the glove is in the longitudinal direction, it is only necessary to pass the form holding frame into the glove and expand the wrist portion, to present such shrinking, and the 30 torsion of the spring sides of the finger parts will prevent lateral contraction of the glove fingers. g
The invention comprises a form retainer composed of bent spring wire, and having 35 longitudinally extended and laterally spaced sides composing the parts that spreadapart the sides of thewrist of the glove; andone of these extremitiesis bent at an angle to intersect with the opposite side, and the sides are applying meanswhich hold the parts extended against the'pressure of the glove but permit of the adjustment for retaining the shape of the glove and also permit the release 1926. Serial No. 116,844.
The invention is hereinafter described,
illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a plan of the device showing a spring compression means for holding the parts extended; r
Fig. 2 is a tr'ansversesection thereof on line a-a, Fig. 1;
In these views,'in holder provided with separate loops for: the thumb and fingers; B represents the extremity of one side C ofthe wristportion, which is turned at right angles to the side to Fig; 1, A is the glove cross theopposite side D. The-side D terminatcs in a twisted loop E throughthe eye of which the crossed end B is passed. The loop r it being made of spring wire is revolved on its axis until when the'crossed arm B is passed through the eye it will have a tendency to i revolve back again and will be under torsion and will exert'a cramping ,efi'ect on the arm B to retain it wherever 'it'is placed in the eye, but will permit theoperator to force it back to release the glove. I
Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis: r g T 1. In a device of the characterrdescribed,
a wire former conforming to the shape of the g thumb and fingers of the hand, and provided b with longitudinally extended wrist portions, 1 one of said wrist portions being'provided with anarm laterally extended therefrom I and crossing the other wrist portion, and cramping and torsion exerting lnGflIlSdiOIY together. I p o ,2. In a device, of the character described, a hand shaped former composed of spring wire, and having substantially parallel wrist connecting said arm'and other Wrist portion I portions, oneof said wrist" portionsbeing providedwith a lateral armcrossing the other wrist portion, and cramp ng and torsion producing means OIlSfllCl other wrlst portion adj ustably engaged with said arm.
