TIE HOLDER.
Application filed May 24, 1923.
T 0 all whom it may con-0cm."
Be it known that I, LORENZ F. BIESE- MEYER,11 citizen of the United States, residing at Chamois, in the county of Osage, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Tie Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to neck tie holders and has for its object to provide, in combination with a neck tie, a gripping member carried by the tie and adapted to grip opposite sides of a shank of a collar button and hold the tie against displacement.
A. further object is to provide a neck tie with a bowed spring on the rear side thereof, to the ends of which bowed spring gripping arms are secured which gripping arms extend inwardly towards each other and have their inner adjacent ends provided with re cesses adapted to receive the opposite sides of collar button shank and securely clamp the tie in place. The bowed spring when gripped at its ends and moved towards a straight position causes the gripping arms to move outwardly from each other thereby allowing the enlarged end of a collar button to pass between the gripping arms, and coin.
sequently allows removal or replacement of the tie.
l/Vith the above and other objects in View the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional form of bow tie, showing the holding device applied to the rear side thereof.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the tie and holding device, showing the same supported on a conventional form of collar button.
Figure 3 is a front view of the tie and a collar.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 Serial no. 641,233.
designates a bow tie, however it is to be understood that the device hereinafter described may be applied to any type of tie desired, and a bow tie is shown primarily for purposes of illustration. Secured to the rear side 2 of the tie is a segmentally shaped leaf spring 3, which is secured to the tie by means of stitching 42 at spaced points as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2. The ends 5 of the leaf spring 3 have secured thereto at inwardly curved spring arms 7 which spring armsextend towards each other and have their ends provided with oppositely disposed semicircular shaped recesses, 8
will cause the spring 3 to straighten and consequently the spring arms 7 will move out of gripping engagement with the shank 8 or into gripping engagement with the shank 8 according to whether the tie is being placed in position or removed. The arms 7 move outwardly from each other suliiciently to allow the enlargement .12 of the collar button to pass therebetween. It will be seen that the tie can be easily and quickly placed in position or removed, thereby obviating the present practice of extending atie around a collar and then tying the tie, wh1ch action 15 a difiicult one, especially where a soft collar is used. and where conventional forms of ties even if carefully tied and adjusted exert a pressure on the neck.
From the above it will be seen that a neck tie fastening device is provided, which device is simple in construction, and constructed in such a manner whereby the tie is posi tively held after being applied to a collar button and one which may be easily and quickly applied.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A neck tie holder, said holder comprising a bowed spring secured to the rear side of a tie, bowed spring arms secured to the ends of the bowed spring and extending towards each other in the same plane, the adjacent ends of said bowed spring arms being pro- 6 vided with recesses adapted to receive and grip the shank of a collar button at opposite sides thereoi in the same plane.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
LORENZ F. BIESEMEYER.
