Description

J. nENoRMANDIE s. E. MITCHELL. TRACE-BUCKLE. No.173,27-3. Patented Feb.8,1a7e.
yWIi/wls www .Attorneyn UNITED STATES PATENT JOHN DENORMANDIE AND EUGENE MITCHELL, OF BENTLEYSVILLE, PA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-BUCKLES.
vSpecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,273, dated February 8, 1876 application filed June 26, 1875.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN DENORMANDIE and EUGENE MITCHELL, of Bentleysville, in the county of Washington and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Buckles; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specication.
The object of our invention is to so construct a trace buckle that the trace will be 'left straight and not bend at the front of the buckle; and to this end the nature of our invention consists in the construction of a trace# buckle with a straight frame, havingV a loop end, the outer or free end of the tongue being bentoutward at an angle, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
1n order to enable others skilledin the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, We will nonr proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to th annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of our tracebuckle, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. v
A represents a metal frame, of any suitable dimensions, having a loop, B, formed at its front end, which loop has an inclined top, y, anda grooved plate, C, under said loop within the frame. On the rear cross-bar E of the frame A is pivoted a straight tongue, D, the outer or free end m of which is bent upward at .an angle, as shown.
B, and the bent end m of the tongue passed through the hole therein, the end of the trace lies on the outer side of the tongue, the knee or angle of the tongue rests on the grooved plate C, and the end of the tongue bears against the loop.
It will thus be seen that the main part of the tongue D lies at and parallel with the bars of the frame, With its inclined end fr bearing against the inclined top of the loop B, thus allowing the point of the tongue-to be easil7 inserted in the trace openings, vand when the trace is in place it will lie flat, without any bend at the front of the buckle. strain is brought to bear on the tongue, the point thereof' will bear close on the inclined loop top, and the lnain part vof the tongue, having a bearing in the plate C, will prevent any disengagement of the tongue from the trace.
Having thus fully described our invention, whatwe claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the frame A, with rear cross-bar E, the grooved plate O, loop B, with inclined top y, and the straight tongue'D, hinged to the rear cross-bar, which forms part of the frame, and having an angular end, x, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony that We claim the foregoing We have hereunto set our hands this 20th day of May, 1875.
JOHN DENORMANDIE. EUGENE MITCHELL.
