Serial No. 113,026. i
This invention relates to cash receiving and accounting devices and relates particularly to pocket devices serving the purpose both of a purse and a register of expenditures;
It is an object of the invention to provide a compact device comprising areceptacle for coins and other currency, and a highly sim plified means for listing expenditures.
Another object is to adapt the accounting means to carry a movable sheet of paper and to permit a free removal from the device of saidmean s as a unit, so as to facilitate the renewal of the paper. a H V A further object is to provide for mounting the traveling sheet of paper upon' a frame consisting of a single sheet metal stamping such as may be produced inquantities at little expense. These objects the invention attains by the construction herein described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, whereview of the accounting formed of sheet material, having strength,
durability and flexibility, such as leather. This receptacle has a marginal upstanding wall 2 atits ends, and a front marginal wall 2*, and its rear margin is connected, preferably integrally, with a main cover member 3 havlng a marginal wall 4 corresponding to that of the receptacle 1 and adaptedto fit within said receptacle. A connecting portion 5 of the body of said receptacle and cover member 4 exercises a hinge function, adapting the cover member to swing freely to or from its covering positions, shown in dash lines in Fig- .u 2 I j.
' Within the receptacle 1, there, is secured a I fa ls'e bottom 6,'p'referably of flexiblesheet Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invenleaving said rolls,'is adapted to accumulate material, which coacts with the true bottom of said receptacle to form a pocket 7 for re-' ceiving coins orother currency. The member 6' is cemented or stitched to the end walls 2 and front wall 2* but is free at its edge adj a cent'the hinge 5 soas to provide an-inlet 8 to the coin pocket. I
The receptacle 1 receives an accounting device consisting primarily of aframe 9 and an elongated paper sheet 10 carried by said frame. Itis preferred to form the frame 9 of sheet-metal and the illustrated construction is such as to permit said frame to be formed from a single sheet metal stamping. Thus said frame comprises afiat table por- 5 tion 11 adapted tosupportthat span of the sheet 10 upon which entries areito be made. Forwardly of said table portion, the frame is bent to extend downwardly as indicated at 12, and the base of the portion 12 forms a trough-shaped keeper 12 for a paper roll 10 which is the initial form of the sheetlO. A curved tongue 13 integrally rises fromthe forward edge of thekeeper 12 engaging the center portion of the roll 10 holding said roll in the keeper and guidingthe sheet of paper as it advances to thetable portion 11 of the frame. Itis to be noted that said tongue terminates adjacent to said table portion and slightly below, the upper face thereof so as 0 to hold the paperdown upon said face. Rearwardly of its table portion, the frame 9 is downwardly bent, as indicated at 14, to form a support for said portion, and a pair of tongues 15, integrally projecting from the ends of said portion are bent downwardly adjacent to the support 14 to journal pins 16 mounting a pair of companion feed rolls 17. Above said rolls and extending parallel thereto is aslot- 18 in the table member of'the SO 7 frame, through which slot thepaper sheet passes downwardly to engage the rolls 17. Said rolls may be faced with rubber or some similar material to adapt them to more firm-- ly engage the sheet 10. Said sheet, after beneath the table portion 11,- as indicated at r 10 It'will be seen that the depending fora ward and rear'portions12 and 14, resting upon the-falsebottom 6, elevate the table por too tion 11 and form, beneath said portion a chamber 19 which receives the used portion 10 of the paper. lVhen necessary, the accumulated used paper may be torn from the main sheet and the entries thereon totaled. As is best seenin Figure 4, the sheet may be stressed against the lower edge of the part 14 of the frame so that the tear will occur along a straight line.
To the rear edge of the false bottom, there is cemented, or otherwise permanently attached, an inner or intermediate cover member 20 flanged at its ends and at its margin remote from the false bottom as indicated at 21 and the flange 21 being adapted to fit within the receptacle 1, when said cover member is in its covering position. When in said position, a rectangular opening 22 in said cover nieniber exposes that portion ofthe sheet 10 resting upon the table 1, so that an entry or entries may be made upon said sheet. A sufficient free portion 23 of the fabric forming said cover member eXten ds between the body of said member and the false bottom to serve as a hinge. is preferred to make some provision in the way of a catch or fastening to hold the cover member 20 normally in its closed position, The illustrated fastening means consists of a short strap 24: secured to the flange 21, in such a manner as to be passed snugly through a slot 25 in the wall 2 of the receptacle as said flange engages said wall.
Toprovide for actuating the rolls 17, the pin mounting one of said rolls may carry a serratedwheel 26 orother actuatingmember at one end of the frame 9, and said wheel may project, asseen in Figures 1 and 2, through a slot- 27 in the cover member 20 so as to be exposed when the outer cover 3 is raised.
, A pair of tongues 28 formed integrally with the ends of the frame 9 are bent toward each other and spaced slightly above the table 11 to co-act with the tongue 13 in holding the sheet in close contact, with the table.
To complete the described device, is adapted to carry a pencil 29 for making entries upon the sheet 10; Thus apertures 30 and 31 are formed in one of the ends 2 of the receptacle and in an end portion of the flange 4-, said apertures registering when the cover member-2O is in covering position, and said pencil, when inserted in said apertures, is
engageable, within the chamber 19, with a keeper 32 formed by a tongue struck inward ly from a, end portion of the table 11.. The tongue 32 urther acts as a guide for the used portion of the sheet as itaccumulates beneath thetable, facilitating the rolling of said sheet.
. The modified form of accounting device J illustrated in Figure 5 differs from the described constructiononly that the endings 1 5 of the frame mount only a single roll 17,
the sheet 7 10 being ifrictionall engaged and fed bet weensaid roll and the epending portion 14? of the frame,
It is a feature of the construction, that the accounting device (in either of its disclosed forms) is freely removable as a unit from the receptacle 1, thus simplifying the manufacture and original assembly and permitting a user of the article to very easily effect a renewal of thesheet 10 or to tear off the used portion of the sheet.
It is to be noted that the construction makes forsim 'alicity, furthermore, in that there is avoided the use-of shafts or rollers to carryeither the unused or used portions of the sheet. v
Preferably the receptacle 1, and its cover members 3 and 20 have an approximate wedge form, reducing in thickness as they approach the edge of the article at which the cover members are hinged. This shap'e permits the article to be carried more conveniently in a hip pocket.
By adapting a single article to serve both as a purse and as an accounting device, the user of the article is definitely reminded to make an entry of an expenditure in getting v out the" amount to be spent, and time is saved in eliminating the handling of a notebook or the like add tionally to the handling of a purse.
ing device, it preferred to form said bottom, at least in part, of sheet metal, or some other relatively rigid material. Thus in Figure 2 a sheet metal plate, 33 is secured to lGO the member 6 within the coin pocket 7, The means shown for attaching said plate to said member consists of tongues 34 on said plate passed'through said member and bent down.
It will be noted that the flanged cover 3 3 forms a holder into which coins may be slid from the pocket 7 to permit a ready selection of any desiredcoin or a summing up of all of the coins.
What I claim is 1 A recording device comprising a sheet of material having a table portion for supporting a record receiving portion of a record sheet, and having downturned support ng portions opposite sides of said table porbearingmembers upon said slotted downturned 7 portion, and a feed roller for said sheet ournaled in said bearing members, the
record sheet being adapted to pass from said feed roller through said slot and into a chamberfor the used poi'tion of the sheet formed r below said table portion, and between sa d surr r i ej e i s-i a 2. A mounting of sheet material fora travelling record sheet, comprising a trough shaped receiver for. a rolled supply portion of q said record sheet, a table member integrally In order that false bottom 6 may pre sent a flat supporting surface to, the registerizs extending from one edge of said receiver and a Wall integrally projecting downwardly from said table member at its opposite edge and spaced from said receiver to provide a receptacle for a used portion of the record sheet between said Wall and receiver, and having an opening for the passage of the record sheet into said receptacle.
3. A mounting of sheet material for a travelling record sheet, comprising a trough shaped receiver for a rolled supply portion of said record sheet, a table member integrally extending from one edge of said receiver, and a Wall integrally projecting dovvn- Wardly from said table member and at its opposite edge spaced from said receiver to form a receptacle for a used portion of the record sheet and slotted for the passage of said sheet into said receptacle.
4. A mounting of sheet material for a traveling record sheet, comprising a troughshaped receiver for a rolled supply portion of said sheet, a table member integrally X- tending from one edge of said receiver and integrally formed with a down-turned edge portion remote from said receiver, said dovvnturned portion coacting with the receiver to support said table member and to form heneath the table member a receptacle for a used portion of the record sheet, the table member being transversely slotted for the passage of the record sheet into said receptacle. I
5. A mounting of sheet material for a traveling record sheet, comprising a table member having end portions clown-turned to form supports for said table member and to further form, beneath said table member, a receptable for a used portion of the record sheet, said table member being transversely slotted for the passage of the record sheet into said receptacle, and means integrally carried by one of said down-turned portions for mounting a supply portion of the record sheet.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification. C. CHARLES WILLIAMS.
