Description
Oct: 1 1929. R; REINISCH' BOOK COVER Filed Sept. 26, 1923 Z}: vein for.
Manley:
Patented @ct. 1, 1929 were err than RUDOLF REINISCH, OF- VIENNA, AUSTRIA BOOK COVER Application filed September 26, 1923, Serial No. 664,977, and in Austria March 26, 1923.
My invention relates to a cover for books, and particularly account books, by which books are covered, in order to be better protected from Wear and tear. A special advantage of my invention rests on the circumstance, that this cover is provided with means by which one can at any time apply a metallic plate, which serves as a hard writing pad, so that copies with a pen can be made. This metallic plate can be fixed suitably on the cover of my invention, so that it will be firmly held in place. In this way I avoid the danger of tearing and injuring the pages of the book by the metallic plate. In order to set exactly the copies at the desired place upon the card, laid under it, I have arranged an adjustable metallic clamping member, which can be fastened over the metallic plate, whereby the cards laid under the page, on which the copy is to be made, are only allowed to extend as far as the clamping member.
An embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a book cover for business purposes applied to a book, the book being open and with the metallic plate and metallic strip for making copies in position for use,
Figure 2 is a book removed from the cover,
Figure 3 is a three-part back of the cover,
Figure 4 is the metallic bar, by means of which the book is fastened in the cover,
Figure 5 is the right-handed cover,
Figure 6 is the metallic plate, and
Figure 7 is the clamping member.
In accordance with my invention the book cover is composed of two square cover sheets of adequate size 1 and 2 which can be made of pasteboard, leather or any other suitable material. The cover sheets are made in divers sizes so that any book can be provided with the appropriate cover. The cover sheet 1 is provided towards the margin with two small recesses 3 and 4 provided with metallic lining. The other cover sheet 2 has two vertical pins 5 and 6 which when the cover is closed, fit into the two recesses 3 and 4 of the sheet cover 1. The length of said pins 5 and 6, as is obvious, will depend on the size of the book to be bound in the cover.
, The two cover sheets 1 and 2 are united by a metallic back composed of a center piece 7 to which a side wing on either side 8 and 9 is attached by hinges; to them the cover sheets 1 and 2 are fastened by means of small screws or by any other suitable means. The center piece 7 is turned up at both ends so as to form two ears 10 and 11 provided withapertures 12 and 13. Through these apertures 12 and 13 therod 14 which secures the cover to the book, passes.
The book 15 to be bound in the cover is provided on its back with a tubular member 3 16 preferably of leather. Through this member 16 and the apertures of theears 13, the rod 14 is passed, and then the head 17 of the rod 14 isapplied to said rod. For this purpose the rod 14 is provided with a threaded i cards in clear and distinct writing with the pen, the supporting plate 20 is inserted into the book. Upon this latterthe card 21 is placedwhich will be covered by the journal page. Now, as the card 21 is only to be in--' serted to a certain distance, a clamping memberis placedon the leaf overlying the plate 20. The clamping member is composed of a strip 23 having an integral hook 24 at one end and at its other end a hook 2'5 slidable thereon. As shown in the drawing the hook 25 is slidablymounted on the strip 23 by the keeper 23 on the end of the strip 23 and the keeper 25 on the end of the upper member 25 of the hook 25, the keepers engaging the strip and the upper member of the hook respectively. These two hooks 24 and 28 engage the supporting plate 20 and clamp the leaf on the supporting plate so that it serves to limit the distance the card is to be inserted. The supporting plate 20 is provided with two small openings 29 and 30 provided with small slots. With said openings 28 and 29, the pins 5 and 6 of the cover sheet 1 engage and securely fasten the supporting plate 20 in posit-ion.
The elongated openings 29 and 30 of the plate 20 permit the said plate to be moved laterally on the cover sheet.
Several slight alterations may be made in 5 the general form and arrangement of the parts described, without deviating from my invention, and I shall consider myselfcfree to make such changes as fall within the scope of the claims.
WVhat I claim is:
1. In an account book having one of its cover members provided with openings and the other with pins to enter the said openings when the bookis closed, a supporting plate adapted to be inserted under a leaf of the book when opened and provided with openings to receive the pins of the said cover mem- 2. In an account book having .one of the cover members provided with pins, a sup porting plate provided with openings and adapted to be inserted under .a leaf of the book and when so inserted having the pins of the cover member projecting into the openings thereof, the said plate being of greater width than the :leavesof the book,.-anda striplike member overlying the leafandhaving at its ends hooks engaging the supporting plate. .3. In a device of the character described, a plate adapted to be inserted undera leaf .of a book, the plate beingofgreater width than the leaves of the book, and a clamping member extending over the leaf and having at its ends means for slidably securing it to the plate, whereby the member-can be adjusted in different positions and in each positionserve as a stop to limit the distance a sheet :upon which a copy is to be made may be inserted between the leaf and plate.
4. In a device of the character described,
a plate adapted to be inserted under a leaf of a book, the plate being of greater Width than the leaves of the book, and a clamping strip having hooks at itsends .sl i-daibly engaging the edges of the plate, one ofthe hooks being adjustable, whereby the strip can he slid to different positions to serve as a stop to limit the distance a sheet upon which a copy is to be made may be inserted between the leaf and plate.
In Witness thereof I have put my name underneath the present description.
RUDOLF REINISGH.
