My invention relates to a easel type of loose-leaf binder and it relates. more particularly to a loose-leaf binder of a type adapted for use both new and useful as a loose-leaf book and also as an easel display stand for displaying the successlve leaves of the book. One of'the objects of my inventionis the provision of a loose-leaf binder of this character, which may be most effectively used for display purposes, of clearance for each page with the greatest amount as it is folded while the device is in the easel form.

The loose-leaf book of my present invention includes a back 7 consisting generally of the top and bottom hinge strips or members 8 and 9 repetitively, which are preferably still, rigio members covered on both sides with the outer and inner linings 10 and 11, which are then united at 12 to form a flexible connection between the top and bottom hinge strips 8 and 9. To the bottom hinge strip 9, a pair of similar hollow tubular and in ternally threaded screw-posts 13 are rigidly suitable anchorages 1 embedded in said 9 or extending therethrough and hinge strip covered by the outer lining 10. To the freeor. outer edge 25 of the base panel 23, a stiff flap or ab 26 is flexibly secured, also preferably by means of the inner and outer linings 10 and 11, which preferably extend the entire aggregate length of thesuccessive series of flexibly connected members 18, 8, 12, 9, 19,24, 23 and 26. The flap or tab 26 adapted to be folded up in overlapping relation to the lowermost or outer portion of the upper cover panel 18, when the latter is in the position shown in Figures 2 and 3. A pair of spaced snap-fastener sockets 2'7 are provided through the outermost portion of the cover 18, which are adapted to receive corresponding and registering snap-fastener studs 28 earned by the tab 26, when the device is set up as an easel, thereby detachably to secure said flap 26 to the cover member 18. A pair of opposed upper and lower binding plates or bars 35 and 36 areprovided, each being preferably formed of a strip of sheet-metal, the longitudinal edges of which are bent-in upon the strip so as to form a'strip or bar of approximately double thickness.

The edge 37 of the lower bar 36 is cut away at intervals, to enable it to serve as another hinge leaf, to coactwith the hinge leaf 30. The pintle 32 is thus extended through the front and cut-away edge 37 of the bar 36, so

that said bar is hingedly secured to the leaf 3,0, and hence to the'lower hinge member or strip 9. 1

WVhen the book is'used for-display purposes, the base panel 23 is bent back further and is joined to the cover 18 by means of the tab 26, as indicated particularly in Figures 2 and 3.\ When in this condition, the bars 35 and 36 are swung out from between the hinge members 8 and 9 forming iart of the back of. the book, as indicated particularly in Figures 2 and 3, this swinging action taking place about the pintle 32. As the successive leaves ofthe sheaf of pages 33 are folded backward, their weight and position operate on the bars 35 and 36 to swing them in a reverse direction, back into, the space between the hinge members Sand 9, thereby to tend to relieve the tension" on the sheaf of pages foldediback and to permit a freer motion of folding of each leaf, and to expose more freely to view the uncovered page of the front face of the easel, without any overhanging portion of the folded-back pages. A loose-leaf book of the character stated, comprising a book including a pair of spaced and generally parallel hinge members, a corresponding cover flexibly connected to each of said hinge members, a base panel flexibly connected to the outer edge of one of said covers, and means for detachably fastening the free edge of said base panel to the free edge of the other cover, when the two covers are both folded back to form a generparallel hinge members, while the device'is opened book-wise, and being disposed outside of said pair of spaced and generally parallel hinge members when the'book is opened easel-wise.
