Description

Oct. 1, 1929. POULTER 1,730,163
SAFETY RAZOR BLADE SHARPENER Filed Aug. 21, 71928 T flames I2. Pau Z5611 Patented Oct. 1, 1929 THOMAS H. POULTER, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK SAFETY-RAZOR-BLADE SHARPENER Application filed August 21, 1928. Serial No. 301,115.
This invention relates to a safety razor blade sharpening device.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a new, novel and eflicient type of safety razor blade sharpener designed to be held in the hand while being used and adapted to quickly realine the microscopic teeth of the razor blade without unduly abrading the same.
The invention comprises a hollow arcuate glass body open alon each arcuate edge, between the walls of w ich the razor blade is inserted with its length parallel to the axis of the body. The inner wall of the body is rovided with a central transversely extendmg slot through which a finger tip may-be inserted for contact with the blade body lying between the walls so that the blade may be reciprocated across the concave surface of the outer wall to rub the edge or edges of the blade across the same.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a simple-and efficient razor blade sharpener which may be conveniently carried about 2 and which will be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a detailed perspective view of the razor blade sharpening device embodyin the present invention;
%igure 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken upon the line 33 of Figure 1.
- Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 indicates generally the razor blade sharpening device embodying the present invention, the same being hollow as shown and as indicated at 5.
The sharpening device is preferably constructed of glass which, has been found to be particularly effective as a hone, no doubt due to the abrasive qualities of the silica and lead embodied in its make-up. In use, the razor blade is inserted lengthwise between the inner and outer walls of the body to a position where it may be engaged by the tip of a finger inserted through the slot 6. The finger is then moved longitudinally of the slot to reciprocate the blade transversely of the body, rubbing the edge or edges thereof against the inner or concave face of the outer wall 3. In this manner the blade edge or edges are restored to normal condition for use. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A safety razor blade sharpener of the character described, comprising a double walled arcuate body'open along its arcuate edges, and said'body having means whereby a safety razor blade, inserted between the walls, and hearing at its cutting edge against one of the same, may be reciprocated, said means comprising a slot formed transversely of the inner or concave one of the walls for the extension of a finger therethrough to en gage the blade positioned between the walls.
2. A safety razor blade sharpener of the character described, comprising a double walled arcuate glass body open along its arc- -uate edges, and said body having means whereby a safety razor blade, inserted between the walls, and bearing at its cutting edge against one of the same, may be reciprocated, said means comprising a slot formed transversely of the inner or concave one of the walls for the extension of a finger therethrough to engage the blade positioned between the walls.
In testimnoy whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
THOMAS H. POULTER.
