UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPE'NDERAND vOTHER LOOPS.
Specification form-in g part of Letters Patent N 0. 172,959, dated February 1, 1876; application led u i i January 17, 1876.
to a ring, buckle, or other device, the re-en-` forcing loop being secured by an eyelet or other suitable means. Figures Land 2 are, respectively, a front elevation and 4section of a strap fastened to a device according to my invention.
The straps with which Suspenders and the like are commonly provided are subjected to rapid wear at the point Where they loop over the buckle or ring, and soon part or break at .that place, thus `causing trouble, annoyance, I and expense. f
Attempts have been made to remedy this defect by the employment of metall-ic plates in connection 'with such strap-loops; but such plates have been so applied as to be objectionable xin use, chieiiy in con sequence of their edges being immediately in contact with the side bar of the metallic buckle or other device,l which results in cutting action and wear between the'respective parts, and injury to the fabric or surface in contact Vwith which they may come. To remedy this defect I'apply a narrow reenforce loop to the strap-loop, in the manner hereinafter described, and thereby enhance the value of the article without materially increasing its cost or impairing the exibility of the strap.
Arepresents a strap, and-B a device to which it is connectedby passing one'end, E,
kthrough it, and securing the loopby suitable means, as an eyelet, D. C is the re-enforc- -ing loop, of metal or other suitable material, applied exteriorly to the loop of strap A, andl which is narrower than the latter, as shown,
in order that th'ey edges 'of the strap may interpose between the edges of the re-ent'orcing loop and the device B, thus preventing cutting action and wear between the parts themselves, and upon the fabric or other surface with which they may come incontact.
1.v The combination of a re-enforcin g loop, of metal or equivalent material, with the loop of a suspender or other strap, connecting it-with a ring, buckle, or other device, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the pur pose set forth. A
12. The combination, with the loop of a sus-v pender-strap, ot' a. reenforce loop, of metal or other material, made narrower than the suspenderfloop, substantially as and for the purpose specified.`
