Description

Sept. l0, 192.9. w, s, BING HOSPITAL ROOM INDICATOR Filed Jan. l2, 1927 INVENTOR.. WILLIAM 5f BIN@ A TTORNEY Patented Sept. l0, 1929.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM S. BING, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
HOSPITAL-ROOM INDICATOR.
Application inea January 12, 1927. seran No. 160,637. Y
My invention relates to a hospital room indicator, more particularly to indicators which may be placed on the outside of the door of the room so that outsiders may know the requirements within, and the objects of my invention are: first, to provide a device of this class which combines the room number, quickly changeable room requirement indicator and physicians card holder into one unit; second, to provide a device of this class which is a complete inn dicator for the outside of doors of hospital rooms; third, to provide a device of this class which is compact and neat in l5 appearance; fourth, to provide a device of this class which is simple in construction, and fifth, to provide a device of this class which is attractive, durable, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order. lWith these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construe tion, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims. reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my device; Fig. 2 is a sectional View thereof through 2 2 of Fig. 1, with Vparts and portions shown in elevation to facilitate the illustration; Fig. 3 is a sectional view 35 through 3-3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. l is an elevational view of the revolubl-e indicator' member 3.
The casing 1, filler 2, indicator member 3, indicator member actuating means 4, physicians card holder member 5, and the screws 6, constitute the principal parts and portions of my invention.
The casing 1 is preferably made of light sheet metal with raised portions, such as 45 the numerals 1, designs 1b, printing 1c, screw holes 1d, and an aperture 1e in the casing, which exposes portions of the indicator member 3, as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
50 The edges of the casing 1 are folded back against themselves `at 1f and clamp and support the filler 2. yThe ,ller 2 is preferably composed of suitable material, such as cardboard, and is provided with ak cutout portion `2a adapted to receive the indicator 55 member 3. 4The indicator member '3 is preferably circular in shapey and is provided withprinting 3a, which may be arranged as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. The indicator member is manually actuated by a ,60 means 4,r consisting of the knob lla, shaft 4b an-d a washer 4c. The shaft 4b passes through a hole in the casing 1 and through the indicator member 3. The washer 40 fits on the protruding end of the shaft and is rigidly secured to the indicator member by means of points 4e, which extend into the surface of said indicator member. The head of the shaft is riveted at 4d, thus rigidly securing the washer 1C yto the shaft 4b and 70 forcing the points 4e into the indicator member 3. This indicator member is provided on one side with printing matter as follows: Quiet, No visitors, Sleeping7 and Limit visit to 5 `min., which is posi- 75 tioned to pass under the aperture 1e, as shown, when the indicator is revolved. I
Near the normally lower end of the casing 1 is a card holder 5, preferably made of wire, with looped portions 5"L at its eX- 80 tremities and a lug portion 5b midway be` tween the loops, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings. A physicians card e or the like may7 be slipped under the wire on either side of the lug 5*. The card re- .95 tainer 5 is held in place by means of screws 6, which pass through the loops 5a. through the screw holes 1d of the casing and through the filler. The upper portion of the casing is also held byfscrews 6, which pass through holes 1d and through the filler, as shown. best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The device may thus be fastened to a door or any convenient place. The casing is provided on its outer surface above the card retainer with the words Physician in attendance.7 Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combinationv and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular 1,00
construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention, the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set Jforth in 5 the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure byy Letters Patent is:
In a device of the class described, a revoluble indicator member, a hollow casing in Which said indicator member is revolubly mounted, and means for revolving said revoluble member including a knob provided With a shank extending therethrough, and a Washer member mounted on the opposite side of said shank provided With inwardly extending portions engaging said revoluble member. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this 24th day of December, 1926. IVILLIAM S. BING.
