Description
Patented Aug 20, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATIENT OFFICE.
JACOB SCHICK, OF SOUND BEACH, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOB TO MAGAZINE BEPEATING RAZOR COMPANY, A CORPORATION 01' NEW JERSEY.
SAFETY RAZOR.
Application filed February 3, 1928, Serial 1T0. 85,838. Renewed December 12, 1928.
This invention relates to an improved safety razor which employs a stack of blades and from which stack the blades are successively fed and are then placed in the holder 5 or guard and are then in shaving position.
The invention isdesigned to provide a device in which the blade is fed by hand, that is, a tool such as a pin or small rod is used for forcing the blade from the stack. The
invention also comprises a means for advancing the blade which is on the top of the stack so that it can be grasped by the tool, this means preferably consisting of a sleeve rotatable on the holder which usually serves as the handle of the razor, the sleeve when moved to open position actuating means that advances the top blade so as to be grasped.
The razor as illustrated comprises a handle 10 and a guard 11 which is mounted on the post 12, being pivoted to the post so that it can be moved to an oblique or to a lateral position for shaving, or itcan be moved to a position in alignment with the handle to have a blade fed to it. To receive a blade it has a slit 13 which is in alignment with the 4 slit 14 in the handle or holder when the Parts are in the position shown in Figures 1 and 2. The slit receives a blade at a time, the blades 15 being stacked within the holder and usually arranged in a clip 16 insertible in a recess in the holder, the recess being closed and and the clip being held in position by a cap 17. A spring 18 normally presses the blades toward the open top of the clip 16, the blades being limited in their movement by the wall 19. The holder has a slot 20 through which access can be had to the blades and slide them one at a time from the holder, this slot,
' however, being normally closed by a sleeve 21 but being open when the slot 22 of thev sleeve is placed in register with the slot 20 of the handle 10.
When the sleeve is moved towards its open position, that is, to uncover the slot 20, it actuates means to slidabl advance the top blade so that its bottom e ge can be engaged in order to slide it, one form of such device comprises a wedge 23 which slides to a limited extent and is supported by the lip 24 which extends into a slot in the bottom part of the handle. The movement of this wedge is directly underneath the top blade of the stack, the wedge being moved by the pin 25 -slit 13 of the guard 11.
'When the slot 20 is again closed by partly rotating the sleeve 21 back againin the direction of arrow 6 in Figure 4, the cam acts to withdraw the wedge 23 and the spring 18 then acts to press the stack of blades so that the next blade which for convenience is called the top-most one, is moved up in line so that it can be enga ed by the wedge 23. The pin 29 is preferably carried in a socket on the razor and I show in the drawing the socket'30 arranged longitudinally in a convenient part of the guard, the pin or tool fitting tightly in the socket and being held therein against accidental removal by being readily available when it is desired to use the pin for advancing the blade.
I claim:
1. A razor comprising a holder, a stack of blades in the holder, a rotatable sleeve on the holder and means on the sleeve for engaging and partly advancing the top blade of the stack and a slot in the sleevefor uncovering the top blade when the sleeve has so advanced it, whereby the blade is accessible for engagement by hand to eject it from the holder.
2. A razor comprising a holder for a stack of blades, the holder having a slit through which a blade can be slid, the holder having a slot through which the blade can be engaged by a tool, a sleeve rotatable on the holder and having a slot to be placed in and out of register with the slot in the holder, and means actuated by the sleeve to advance the top blade when the sleeve is rotated to open position so that the ed e of the top blade can be engaged by the too In testimon whereof I aflix my si ature.
