Application filed August 18, 1926, Serial No. 128,951, and in Germany August 2i, 1925 Trouser belts or straps including-elastic bands provided with button-holes, which bands are connected to a stifi'ened central portion and are attached by their free ends at opposite sides to the article of clothing, above the hips, are already known.

This device however has a certain disadvantage. Since the greatest width of the central portion which serves as a support comes above the strap on the body of the trousers and the part to be supported narrows downwards, special button-holes have to be provided for attachment to buttons which are fastened to the inside of the trousers and which cause unpleasant pressure on the body while on the other hand the material is only spread out at the upper trouser band while folds or creases are formed extending diagonally towards the middle, which destroy the proper fit of the trousers and interfere with the secure hold of the strap or band.

The invention obviates these drawbacks, as according to the same, the central portion has a somewhat rhombic shape, with stiffening means in the middle line, the upper angle engaging in a pocket provided for the purpose on the trouser band. In this way the trouser band at the upper edge, is only supported at one place. The trousers lying flat behind the support remain flat at this part and creases or folds extending downwards from the middle are avoided. Moreover buttons on the inside of the trousers for fastening the band are dispensed with, and the device can be worn with great comfort, because the central supporting portion rests with a yielding and wide surface against the person.

In the accompanying drawing, in which one constructional embodiment of my im proved trousers support is illustrated,

I Fig. 1 shows the same in front elevation, while Fig 2 is a diagrammatical perspective view of the device in use.

The trousers support consists of two elastic bands 2 provided with button-holes 3. The inner ends of these bands are attached to the central member 1, which latter is shaped substantially as a rhombus set with an angular point at the top and bottom. At its middle line it is provided with a vertical resilient stiffening member 7.

2, 2 on the article of clothing, there are provided onthe latter loops 4, a and a cap or pocket 5. The outer ends of the bands 2 are attached to buttons or the like 6 fastened to the article of clothing.

As will be seen from the representation of the trousers attachment according to Fig. 2, the support is so applied to the outside of the back of the trousers and to an upwardly extended portion of the latter, that the upper angular portion of the stiffened central memher I inserted into the pocket 5 retains the whole upper edge of the trousers firmly in position, whilst the

2, 2 rest in such a way against the soft parts above the hips, that any tendency of the trousers so attached to slip downwards over the hips is successfully prevented.

The superfluous width of the back portion of the trousers is kept away from the center by the stiffened central member 1 and spread evenly in folds over the side portions.

As the upper edge or band portion of the trousers is kept stretched upwards with a certain tension by the central member 1 engaging in the pocket 5 the formation of a gap between the waistcoat and the trousers is avoided.

The above described means for supporting the trousers also possesses the advantage for the wearer that when he sits down it accommodates itself to'the changes in shape of the parts of the body, thus avoiding any sharp pressure in the regions-of the stomach.

In adapting the device to Waistcoats and to trousers to be supported by braces, the supporting pocket or cap above referred to may be dispensed with, because in these cases the stiffened central member is only intended to keep the superfluous width at the back of the waistcoat and at the back of the trousers away from the middle, to distribute it evenly by the bands 2, and, in the case of Waistcoats, to direct the folds formed towards the shoulder blades which is a matter of importance as regards the proper fit of the waistcoat.

In addition to this, owing to its yielding nature, the device prevents the waistcoat working upwards and sticking out from the chest of the wearer.

I claim:

1. A support for trousers, including in combination two elastic bands provided at their outer ends with fastening means, a central member to which the inner ends of the said bands are attached, the said central member being or substantially rhombic shape with points directed upwards and downwards, a re-inforcement positioned in Vertical direction within said central member, and a pocket or cap provided on the rear of the body of the trousers and adapted to receive the upper point of said central member, substantially as described.

2. A support for trousers, including in combination two elastic bands provided at their outer ends with button-holes, and a central member to which the inner ends of the said bands are attached, the said central member being of substantially rhombic shape with points directed upwards and downwards and having a vertical resilient stiffening member at its middle part, and a pocket or cap provided on the rear of the body of the trousers and adapted to receive one of Sai d points of said central member, substantially as described.

3. Supporting means for trousers including in combination two elastic bands provided at their outer ends with button-holes, a central member to which the inner ends of the said bands are attached, the said central member being of substantially rhombic shape with points directed upwards and downwards and extending substantially above and below the line of said bands, a re-inforcement positioned in vertical direction within said central member, a pocket on the back 01 the trousers band adapted to engage the upper point of the said central member, and buttons on the outside of the trousers adapted to engage in the above-mentioned button-holes in the elastic bands, substantially as set forth.
