PATENT OFFlCE.
DISPLAY BOX.
Application led Detober 14, 1927. Serial No. 226,103.
This invention relates to display boxes.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of this character designed more particularly for the display of pcrfumery bottles in which the contained article will be disposed in a manner best calculated to permit of its being handled.
Another object of the invention is to provide a display box of this character in which the contained article can. be stored and shipped without breakage and with a great amount of facility and safety.
Other objects will appear as the disclosure progresses. The drawings are intended merely to indicate a possible embodiment of the invention. It is obvious that the actual needs of manufacture may necessitate certain mechanical changes. It is therefore not intended to limit the invention to the embodih` ment illustrated but rather to deine such limits in the appended claims.
j For a more detailed understanding of the invention attention is now called to the drawings in which a j )referred embodiment is In these drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters in all the views. Y
Fig. l is a top view of the display box.
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 2 2 of of Fig. 1 with the cover shown in an open position.
Fig. 4 is a top view of the box with the cover shown in an open position.
Fig. 5 is a modified view of the bottle housing.
Fig. 6 is a developed length of the box sleeve.
Fig. 7 is a section on line 7 7 of Fig. 5.
Referring now to the drawings in detail numeral l designates the body of the box Octagon in shape and 2 the cover hinged thereto by the flexible hinge 3.
VVithin the box is a sleeve 4, a portion of which extends above the sides of the box so the cover 2 can impinge thereon when closed and thus make a tight oint.
Placed within the sleeve 4 is an Octagon shaped bottle housing 5 adapted to lit the shape of the box and provided with an opening 6 in which is placed the'bottle of perfumery 7. The upper edge 8 of the housing extends outwardly somewhat as at 9 and when placed within the sleeve 4 forces the co-operating upper edge of the sleeve 4 outwardly also and thereby allows the cover when closed to wedge itself firmly on the sleeve.
In Fig. 5 is shown a detached view of a form of the bottle housing l0 wherein one side representing the base of the bottle is left open thus allowing the bottom of the bottle to rest on the co-operating sleeve portion.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l. In a display box of the character described, a body portion octagonal in cross section having a cover attached thereto by a hinge, said cover being octagonal in shape toV match the shape of the body portion, a bottle housing having an opening for the insertion of a bottle therein, the upper edge of said housing extending outwardly, said housing placed in a sleeve, the upper portion of the sleevev forced outwardly by the said upper edge of the said housing and extending above the upper edge of the body portion on line with the top of the said housing, said cover adapted to impinge on the outwardly extending sleeve portion extending above the body portion so the lower rim of the cover will meet the upper rim of said body portion and thereby makea tight joint.`
2. In a display box of the character described, a body portion Octagon al in cross section having a cover attached thereto by a hinge, said cover being octagonal in shape to match the shape of the body portion, a bottle housing placed in a sleeve, the upper portion of said bottle housing extending above the upper edge of the body portion and bent outwardly andthereby adapted to force the cooperating upper portion of the sleeve outwardly, said cover adapted to impinge on the sleeve portion extending above the body portion so the lower rim of the cover will meet the upper rim of said body portion and thereby make a tight joint.
Inftestimony whereof I affix my signature*l CHARLES J. OPPENHEIM, JR.
