UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANNIE L. CHUBB, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
CLOTHES-HANGER COVER.
Application filed March 10, 1927.
My invention relates to covers adapted to be used in connection with clothes hangers, and the main object of the invention is to construct a clothes-hanger cover of a soft, flexible material so as to prevent articles of clothing from coming in direct contact with hangers and thus to avoid all liability to the clothi'ngs being soiled or otherwise damaged by such a contact.
Another object of my invention is to make a clothes-hanger cover of a soft, flexible, washable material and in parts, which are easily attached to, and removable from, each other, so that the cover is adapted for use upon different hangers and is readily removable for washing in order to further protect the clothing upon a hanger from being soiled.
Other objects and advantages of my invention may be understood from the following detailed description, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a clothes hanger, with the cover of my invention applied thereto;
Figure 2 is a transverse section taken in a plane indicated by the line 22 in Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a plan of a portion of the cover as applied to a hanger, the view being taken so sectionally of the hanger in a plane indicated by the line 33 in Figure 1.
The clothes-hanger cover of my invention is indicated as a whole in the drawing by the numeral 1. It is preferably made of soft,
flexible, and Washable materials and comprises two portions 2 and 3, each of which is in the shape of an elongated bag adapted to he slipped over a wing at of a clothes hanger 5. Each of the portions 2 and 3 is preferably formed from pieces 6 for the outer material and pieces 7 for the lining, the pieces being sewed together at their edges so that the lining 7 will be on the inside of the respective bag.
At the openings of, and in corresponding places on, the bags 2 and 3, I secure fasteners 8, which are of the usual snap type, so that,
Serial No. 174,263.
when the wings 4 of the hanger 5 have been insert into the respective bags, a person may join the bags to each other by simply pressin g the corresponding fasteners together, and thus the bags, with the edges of their openings, embrace the neck portion 9 of the hanger, and thereby form thecompletely protective cover 1 for the hanger. After simply pulling the fasteners apart, a person may readily remove the cover from the hanger.
In the drawing, the hanger 5, to which the cover 1 is applied, is shown as being formed of wire. It is understood, however, that the cover may be applied to hangers of other types Without involving a departure from the spirit of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. A clothes-hanger cover comprising two bags, each adapted to receive therein a wing of the hanger; and means for removably attaehing the bags to each other so as to embrace the neck of the hanger and thereby hold the bags upon the wings, as, and for the purpose, set forth.
2. A clothes-hanger 'cover comprising two bags, each made of a soft, flexible, and washable material and adapted to receive therein a wing of the hanger; and snap fasteners at the openings of the bags for removably attaching the bags to each other, so that the bags, with the edges of their openings, embrace the neck of the hanger and thereby hold the bags upon the wings, as, and for the purpose, set forth.
3. A clothes-hanger cover comprising two bags, each of said bags being made of a soft, flexible, and washable material having a lining therein, said bags being adapted to receive a wing of the hanger; and snap fasteners at the openings of the bags for removably attaching the bags to each other, so that the bags with the edges of their openings embrace the neck of the hanger and thereby hold the bags upon the wings, as, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ANNIE L. CHUBB.
