IMPROVEIVIENI IN SHOW-CASES FOR COFFINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1'7 1.897, dated January 4, 1876 application filed November 30, 1875.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ELIJAH W. WILCOX, of West Winfield, Herkimer county, New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases for Goftins, 85e., of which the following is a specification., reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to devices which have been classed as show-cases, but more particularly to devices for exhibiting coftins, burialcaskets, 85e.; and consists in devices used for attaching the coffin to the inside of the door.
The cofins, easkets, &c., to be exhibited are secured upon a strip, the ends of which extend beyond the ends of the coflin, and pass under cleats fastened at each end ofthe door, and are locked therein by means of a hook and eye, all of which are arranged upon the inner surface of said door, which is hinged at its lower edge, and is held in a horizontal position, when lowered, by a folding foot secured near its upper end.

In the accompanying drawings, A repre-v sents the shell or case, which may be constructed of any desired dimensions, and is provided With the partitions B, which divide the case vertically into compartments of size suitable for the reception of a coftin or casket in an upright position, the compartments being provided with the doors D, hinged at a, and provided with the support b and cleats d. Around the edges of the compartments is constructed the groove e, into which the edges of the doors lit, and which may be provided with weather-strips for excluding the dust, Sac., from the inside of the compartments.
