LINGERIE CLASP.

Application filed October 2, 1928. Serial No. 309,871.

This invei'ition relates to the class of buckles, buttons and clasps and pertains particularly to a new and novel type of clasp designed especially for use as a lingerie clasp.

The primary object of the n'esent invention is to provide a clasp which may be easily and quickly applied to a garment and which may be readily adjusted without having to be detached either from the garment or from a supporting strap thereon.

A further object of the invention is to pro vide a clasp of the character above described, which is of such simple construction that the parts may be readily stamped from metal blanks and assembled with a minimum of trouble.

Further objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent as the description of the same proceeds, and the invention will be'best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, with the understanding that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drzing, but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

'le ferring to the drawing in detail, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corre sponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates the back plate of the clasp embodying the present invention. which plate is preferably of 0101 ited rectangular design and has each longitudinal edge turned slightly as indicated at 2. the central iortion of each turned edge 2 having projecting therefrom the forwardly extending plate 3 from the opposite edges of which plate extends an arm 4. These arms are arranged in spaced relation to the adjacent edges or flanges 2 of the back plate, thus setting up at each end anti at each side of the back plate a longitudinally extending slot 5.

Extending transversely of each end of the back plate 1 is a row of teeth 6. Pivotallv mounted at each end of the back plate and upon the ends of the arms l is a latch 7, that end of each latch lying adjacent an end of the back plate being provided with an inwardly extending tongue 8 which, when the latch is swung to closed position, or in other words lies against its supporting arms and parallel with the back plate, engage-s against the adj acent teeth 6 to hold the edge of a garment, such as that indicated at 9. or a ribbon such as that indicaed at 10 in position. The sides of the latches 7 are turned to form longitudinally extending flanges 11 which overlie the adjacent arms et when the latches are in closed position and these flanges also provide means for securing the latches to their supporting arms, asuitable pin 12 being passed through the arms and the adjacent latch flanges for this purpose.

The adjacent edges of the latches are cut away as indicated at 13 to facilitate manipulationsof the latches by the finger, and the back plate 1 is similarly cut away at its central portion to permit the extending of a garment strap therethrough when same is being held by the clasp in the manner shown. lVhen the present clasp is in use for supporting an article of clothing having shoulder straps or ribbons, engagement of the top edge of the garment is efi'ected by swinging out one of the latches and inserting the edge of the garment between the arms supporting this latch and the back plate 1. The latch is then swung to closed position, which operation causes the tongue 8 thereof to press the body of the garment againstthe acent teeth 6. For engaging the garment shoulder strap the other latch is then swung outwardly from the back plate and the end of the strap inserted between the attached end of the latch and the adjacent teeth and passed out wardly through the opening formed in the back plate 1, until the proper adjustment is made, whereupon the latch may be swung to closed position in the same manner that the garment edge is engaged.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that the present clasp may be readily placed upon a garment and designed to be quickly adjusted to hold the garment in a comfortable position.

Ha ing thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A clasp of the character described, com

lprising a back plate having a plurality of teeth formed across two opposite edges thereof, side plates projecting from the back plate, a pair of latches, means for securing each of said latches at an end of said plate to the side plates, means forming a part of each latch designed to coact-with adjacent teeth for the engagement of an article of clothing and flanges at opposite sides 01 the latches overlying the side plates when the latches are closed.

2. A clasp of the character described, comprising a back plate, a toothed flange formed across each end thereof, a forwardly extending plate body at the central portion of each of two opposite edges of the back plate, laterally extending arms carried by each of said last mentioned plates and projecting in spaced parallel relation to the adjacent edge of the back plate forming therewith inwardly extending slots at each side thereof to receive an article of clothing, a latch mounted at each end of the back plate upon said arms, each having a clothing engaging portion extending transversely ol the back plate to abut the inner face or a toothed flange, and flanges at opposite sides of the latches designed to overlie said forwardly extending plate bodies when the latches are closed.
