UNITED STATES ALEXANDER JONAS, OF PHi LADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED TROUSERS AND BELT.
Application filed July 2, 1927. Serial No. 203,168.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined trousers and belt, and has for its primary object to make a belt integral with the trousers and of the same material, thereby giving a neat appearance to the apparel when being Worn.
Another object ofthe invention is to pro vide a combined trousers and belt so arranged that the belt portion may be adjusted within certain limits so that the waist portion of the trousers will snugly fit the wearer and eliminate any wrinkles which are usual when the ordinary belt is used, the elimination of the wrinkles being due to the fact that the waist of the trousers themselves is adjusted.
A further object of my invention is to provide one or more vents in the waist of the trousers by utilizing the mouth or mouths of one or more pockets arranging the edges of the material forming the belt in overlapping formation with one portion carrying eyes and the other portion and hook whereby the vents may be opened or closed more or less as the case may be to change the circumference of F the trousers waist.
WVith-these ends in view, this invention consistsin the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I'will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a pair of trousers constructed in accordance with my invention, the lower portion of the trousers legs being broken away.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of the upper portion of the trousers.
Fig. 3 is section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention as herein embodied, 5 represents a pair of trousers preferably provided with the usual fly 6, although this may be eliminated if desired. The trousers also have the usual side seams 19 and front pockets 20. To the upper edge of the waist of the trousers is secured a waist band 7 including a rear portion 8 and a front portion 9, the latter being subdivided into two parts where the trousers are provided with the fly.
To the ends of the rear portion 8 of the waist band, are secured flaps 10 which lie back of and cover the vents 11, formed in the upper edge of the trousers waist and which are utilized as pockets.
The forward edge of each flap, preferably terminates at the forward end of the waist band, although it will be understood that this arrangement may be varied and the lower portion of the forward edge of each flap is secured to the trousers proper adjacent the forward edge of a vent, a suitable distance below the upper edge of the trousers as indicated at 12. Likewise the rear edge of the flap is secured to the trousers proper, while its lower edge is attached to a portion of a pocket 13. This arrangement leaves the meeting edges-of the flap and trousers waist and the ends of the waist band sections free of each other so that an opening 1 1 is produced.
On each end of the front portion of the Waist band is a hook 15 for selective coaction with any one of a number of eyes 16 on each end of the rear portion of the waist band.
If found desirable, each flap may be provided with a button 17 for coaction with a button hole 18 in the waist of the trousers adjacent the edge of the vent in order to maintain the pocket in a closed condition.
In practice, the wearer of the trousers may adjust the waist band which in this case becomes the belt, until the desired fit is obtained by selectively engaging the hooks at the sides of the trousers with the coacting eyes, and Where said trousers is provided with the fly, it is thereafter unnecessary to readjust the waist band unless desired.
Because of the unique formation of the waist of the trousers, due to the provision of the vent or vents, the waist band or belt of said trousers which may be adjusted without wrinkling said trousers, and therefore. will give a smooth, neat appearance when being worn.
Another feature of the invention is the two-fold purpose of the vents, the same being utilized to provide for the adjustment of the belt without wrinkling the trousers and their use as openings or mouths leading to pockets. By constructing the trousers or other analogous wear apparel in this manner, the belt may be produced from the same material as the main portion of the trousers thereby eliminating the unsightly belt loops and the necessity of using a belt of a different color or design from that of the trousers.
Of course I do not Wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein the mouths to the rear hip c shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is:
A pair of trousers having substantially U-shaped vents cut into the waist portion to the rear of the side seam, at waist band section secured to the waist portion and extending around the front of the trousers with its ends terminating at the forward edges of the vents, another waist band section secured to the waist portion and extending around the rear of the trousers with its ends projecting across the vents for connection to the 15 ends of the other waist band sections, flaps depending from the free ends of the last mentioned waist band section and having only the lower portions of their forward edges secured adjacent the forward edges of the vents, the upper forward portions of the flaps being unsecured whereby expansilole closures are provided, and pockets fixed to the flaps and the waist of the trousers along the edges of the vents.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto aflixed my signature.
ALEXANDER JONAS.
